Abomasnow (ユキノー) is the 143rd Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex. It is a Grass/Ice Type, and is known as the Frost Tree Pokémon.

Abomasnow uses the Snow Warning Ability. This Ability summons a hailstorm whenever it enters battle, and this hailstorm will continue until another weather changing move is used or a Pokémon with a weather-summoning Ability enters battle. A second Ability is available to Abomasnow from the Dream World, the Soundproof Ability. This Ability gives it an immunity to moves that are sound-based.

Snover can evolve into Abomasnow at Level 40.

Abomasnow is in the Egg Groups Monster and Grass, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Abomasnow 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Biology

[edit] Physiology

Abomasnow takes on the appearance of a cross between a Sasquatch and a winter-based plant form that was come to life. Its fur is green on its appendages and tail.

[edit] Gender Differences

The fur on the chest of a Male Abomasnow is thinner than the chest fur of a Female Abomasnow.

[edit] Game Information

[edit] Original Games

Snover can be found at the Top of Mt. Coronet in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. The only way to obtain an Abomasnow in Heart Gold and Soul Silver is to evolve a Snover.

In Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 the only way to get an Abomasnow is to transfer one from a Generation IV game, or evolve a Dream World Snover.

[edit] Spin-Off Games

Abomasnow appears at Hidden Land 1F-15F & I1F-8F in Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky. Abomasnow is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Weird Forest 7F-18F.

Abomasnow can be found at The Ice Lake in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, but the Field Assist Slam Lv. 3 is required to wake it up. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Abomasnow appears at the Mountainside Top section of Mt. Sorbet in the Present, and in the Ice Temple mission "Don't Look Back! Run Through the Path" by clearing the mission with an S Rank.

Abomasnow makes an appearance at World Axle Glacier B2 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

[edit] Trading Card Game

Abomasnow is listed as a Rare Card in the Mysterious Treasures and Stormfront sets.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Candice would use an Abomasnow in a Gym Battle against Ash during the episode Sliding Into Seventh. It would easily dispatch Staraptor and Grotle before being defeated by Chimchar, winning the match.

[edit] Movies

Wild Abomasnow make an appearance in Giratina and the Sky Warrior and Zoroark: Master of Illusions, along with the Pikachu Short "Pikachu's Great Ice Adventure."

[edit] Manga

Candice's Abomasnow would save Lady Platinum Berlitz after she fainted from the cold conditions whilst en route to Snowpoint City. Abomasnow would later be used in Platinum's Gym Battle against Candice, losing to a Jump Kick from Lopunny.

[edit] Pokémon Information

[edit] Competitive Battling

Despite having very mediocre stats, Abomasnow is a fairly popular Pokémon in the Over-Utilized Tier of Competitive Battling, mainly due to its unique ability, Snow Warning. Much like Tyranitar's and Hippowdon's Sandstream, Snow Warning summons an infinite Hail storm when Abomasnow comes into the field. As such, Abomasnow is a popular addition on Hail teams, or teams revolving around Ice type Pokémon. The numerous appeals of Hail include residual damage to all but a select few Pokémon, Blizzard gaining 100% accuracy and a chance to break through Protect/Detect and various abilities including Snow Cloak and Ice Body that benefit under Hail. Because of its fairly average stats across the board, Abomasnow is able to excel in a number of areas, which is only further complemented by its enormous movepool. With the ability to do things ranging from support to stalling to dealing lots of damage with dual STAB Base 120 Power attacks (Blizzard and Wood Hammer) Abomasnow is not something to be underestimated.
