Abomasnow (Sinnoh Pokédex. It is a Grass/Ice Type, and is known as the Frost Tree Pokémon.) is the 143rd Pokémon in the
Abomasnow uses the Snow Warning Ability. This Ability summons a hailstorm whenever it enters battle, and this hailstorm will continue until another weather changing move is used or a Pokémon with a weather-summoning Ability enters battle. A second Ability is available to Abomasnow from the Dream World, the Soundproof Ability. This Ability gives it an immunity to moves that are sound-based.
Snover can evolve into Abomasnow at Level 40.
Abomasnow takes on the appearance of a cross between a Sasquatch and a winter-based plant form that was come to life. Its fur is green on its appendages and tail.
The fur on the chest of a Male Abomasnow is thinner than the chest fur of a Female Abomasnow.
Abomasnow appears at Hidden Land 1F-15F & I1F-8F in Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky. Abomasnow is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Weird Forest 7F-18F.
Abomasnow can be found at The Ice Lake in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, but the Field Assist Slam Lv. 3 is required to wake it up. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Abomasnow appears at the Mountainside Top section of Mt. Sorbet in the Present, and in the Ice Temple mission "Don't Look Back! Run Through the Path" by clearing the mission with an S Rank.
Abomasnow makes an appearance at World Axle Glacier B2 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.
Trading Card Game
Abomasnow is listed as a Rare Card in the Mysterious Treasures and Stormfront sets.
Candice's Abomasnow would save Lady Platinum Berlitz after she fainted from the cold conditions whilst en route to Snowpoint City. Abomasnow would later be used in Platinum's Gym Battle against Candice, losing to a Jump Kick from Lopunny.
Abomasnow resides in the Neverused (NU) tier of competitive battling. While Snow Warning's nerf and the introduction of its Mega Evolution hurt base form Abomasnow quite a bit in terms of viability, it still excels in the lower tiers. That is because it has a great offensive typing with a high powered STAB in Blizzard which is 100% accurate under hail and decent mixed attacking capabilities. This makes it a tough Pokémon to wall and a great Pokémon to break through defensive cores due to its general unpredictability. Snow Warning can chip away at other Pokémon, negate Leftovers recovery, and break Focus Sashes. Abomasnow can shut down weather sweepers like Ludicolo if it gets the opportunity to switch in. Its best set is a mixed Life Orb attacker set with Blizzard, Giga Drain, and Earthquake that can be very threatening against opposing threats while having priority in Ice Shard. Another viable set is a Swords Dance set that can do significant damage while having a good priority attack to work with in Ice Shard. However, Abomasnow has numerous weaknesses to common attacking types which makes it difficult to fit on certain teams. It also suffers in regards to not being a very good Water-type check as Scald burns are an extreme nuisance for it and offensive Water-types like Samurott, Floatzel, and Kabutops have super effective coverage against Abomasnow. It also does not have a great Speed stat which can make it easy to revenge kill.
Abomansow is also viable in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. Even though it is not as good as its Mega Evolution was when it was a domineering force in the tier, Abomasnow manages to do well for itself as a wallbreaker. With a 100% accurate Blizzard and Grass STAB to hit Water-types, Abomasnow has a great offensive typing that makes it difficult to wall. It has some great coverage options in Focus Blast and Earthquake to hit Fire and Steel-types hard. Abomasnow also has a wonderful priority attack in Ice Shard that can come in handy when in certain situations. With proper support, Abomasnow can be a very difficult Pokémon for opposing teams to deal with and can punch through holes. However, it can be dead weight without good support as it has numerous common weaknesses due to its awful defensive typing.
