Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon

The episode starts out with Ash, Misty, and Brock at Grampa Canyon where they meet Gary Oak. He tells them that everyone is digging for fossils. Ash, not wanting to lose to his rival, jumps right in, as does Misty and Brock.

Gary does find a fossil before Ash does, however he and his cheer squad were disgusted when they found out that it was "fossilized Pokémon manure."

Team Rocket had their own idea for getting their own fossils, using dynamite. Try as he might, Ash couldn't put out the fuse, and the resulting blast sent Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket underground. But they were not alone: there to greet them were Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto and Kabutops, four of the Generation I Fossil Pokémon.

Their Pokémon were outmatched by the four Prehistoric Pokémon, but they retreated unexpectedly. Soon, to the shock and eventual horror of the group, an Aerodactyl flies into the scene. Ash, being his naiive self, asked "What's a carnivore?" only to get an answer from an exasperated James saying that means we're dinner!

Ash sends out Charmeleon to take on the prehistoric carnivore, only to be knocked aside in one attack. To make matters worse, Aerodactyl grabs Ash in its talons and flies off with him! Enraged because it thought that Aerodactyl didn't want to battle it, Charmeleon evolved into Charizard and took off after Aerodactyl. Ash thought it was trying to save him while Charizard was after a fight against a strong Pokémon, even hitting Ash with its Flamethrower at one point.

A Jigglypuff would appear and mistake a ledge for a stage, breaking out into song. Its song would put everyone asleep, including Aerodactyl, who fell down into the hole from whence it came; and Charizard, who managed to catch Ash on its back before descending to the ground.

When Ash wakes up, he is surprised to find a Pokémon Egg right next to him. Brock offers to hatch it for him, an Egg that would eventually become a Togepi.
