Banette (ジュペッタ) is the 147th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Ghost type, and is known as the Marionette Pokémon.

Banette's only Ability in Generation III is the Insomnia Ability, which prevents it from falling asleep from moves such as Spore, Yawn or Rest, which also makes Snore and Sleep Talk useless. Banette received a second Ability in Generation IV, the Frisk Ability, which reveals what the opposing Pokémon is using for a held item (if any). A third Ability is available to Banette from the Dream World, the Cursed Body Ability. This Ability has a 30% chance of Disabling an attack that hits the user of this Ability.

Shuppet can evolve into Banette starting at Level 37.

Banette is in the Amorphous Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 6,400 Steps to hatch. It takes Banette 800,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Game Information

[edit] Original Games

Banette appears on the odd-number floors of Sky Pillar in Sapphire and Emerald.

Banette can be found on Routes 225 and 226 in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum at night. Additionally, Banette appears at Route 227 and Stark Mountain at night in Diamond and Pearl.

The only way to obtain a Banette in Black and White is to evolve a Shuppet. Banette can be found at Strange House and Victory Road in Black 2 and White 2.

[edit] Spin-off Games

Banette is one of the Shadow Pokémon found in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, obtainable by snagging it from Cipher Peon Litnar at Citadark Isle.

Banette appears at Endless Level 16, Forever Level 65 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Banette can only be obtained by evolving Shuppet in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Banette appears at Dark Hill B1-B15 and Sky Stairway 1F-49F. Banette is limited to Stormy Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Weird Rockland 1F-7F.

Banette appears in a total of seven sets and is listed as a Rare Card in all seven: EX Hidden Legends, EX Legend Maker (EX Card), EX Crystal Guardians, EX Power Keepers, Secret Wonders, Platinum and Triumphant sets.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Harley has used a Banette in some of the contests that he's entered. It was defeated in a Contest Battle by a combination attack from May's Bulbasaur and Beautifly in the episode Rhapsody In Drew. More recently, a Wild Banette appeared in the episode Ghoul Daze.

[edit] Movies

Banette appears in the Pikachu Short Pikachu's Ghost Festival, but not in any of the films.

[edit] Manga

Wild Banette make appearances in Chapters 228 and 241. A trainer named Saque uses a Banette in Chapters 289, 290, 292, 293, 412 & 414.

[edit] Pokémon Information

[edit] Competitive Battling

Banette finds itself in the Never-Utilized Tier of Competitive Battling. While it has a considerably high Attack, the rest of its Statistics are mired in the realm of being sub-par. The best thing that it does well is serve as a lead that sets up Trick Room, but this leaves it vulnerable to getting hit with Taunt, shutting down its attempt at Trick Room and other Status Attacks. Its bulk (or lack thereof) can really let it down.
