Basculin (バスラオ) is the 56th Pokémon in the Unova Pokédex. It is a Water Type, and it is known as the Hostile Pokémon.

Basculin is the only Pokémon in the series that can use up to four Abilities. Reckless will increase the amount of damage done by moves that have recoil damage by 20%, but this also increases the recoil as well, and Adaptability increases the Same Type Attack Bonus of its Water-Type moves from 50% to 100%.

Blue-Striped Forme Basculin have access to the Rock Head Ability. This nullifies the effect of recoil from moves such as Double-Edge. Basculin's Dream World Ability is Mold Breaker regardless of form, this Ability allows its moves to work regardless the opponent's Ability.

Basculin doesn't evolve and doesn't have a pre-evolved form.

Basculin is in the Water 2 Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 10,240 Steps to hatch. It takes Basculin One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Biology

[edit] Physiology

Basculin takes upon the form of a fish with a relatively big chin. It has a stripe running from the top of its mouth to the top of its tail on both sides of it.

The fins on a Red-Striped Basculin appear to be more spiked in shape whereas the fins on a Blue-Striped Basculin take on a smoother appearance. Additionally, the eyes on a Red-Striped Basculin appear to be rounded, while a Blue-Striped Basculin's eyes appear to be glaring.

Basculin's form is dependant on its appearance when captured in the Wild. The Red-Striped Form is more predominant in Black, whereas the Blue-Striped form is more common to appear in White.

[edit] Gender Differences

Basculin doesn't have any differences to differentiate between male and female.

[edit] Game Information

[edit] Original Games

Basculin can be found all over Unova when Fishing or Surfing in Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.

[edit] Spin-Off Games

Basculin can appear at Arbor Area's Verdant Courts and the Arcana Zone's Lakeshore in PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond. Basculin won't appear in these two areas until you've befriended Surskit. To befriend Basculin you have to defeat it in a Tag Race.

[edit] Trading Card Game

Basculin is listed as a Common Card in thet Emerging Powers (2) set, and as an Uncommon Card in the Black&White and Next Destinies sets.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Cilan would capture a Basculin during the episode A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition, but after a run-in with Team Rocket, it was discovered that Basculin was released along with all the Pokémon that had been captured by a Wild Frillish.

[edit] Movies

Wild Basculin appear in both versions of Pokémon Movie 14.

[edit] Manga

Basculin's Manga Information is unknown as of writing.

[edit] Pokémon Information

[edit] Competitive Battling

Basculin is capable of battling in both the Never-Utilized and Under-Utilized Tiers of Competitive Battling. The Water Type is very crowded in the Metagame to begin with, and Basculin's limited movepool and low defenses don't do it any favors. It does have access to Adaptability, which gives its Water Moves more punch than it would have with any other Ability that it has access to.
