Carvanha (キバニア) is the 97th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Water/Dark Type, and is known as the Savage Pokémon.

Carvanha has the Rough Skin Ability. This Ability causes an opponent to lose one-sixteenth of its maximum HP by way of recoil when using an attack that requires physical contact against it. Its Hidden Ability is Speed Boost, which increases its Speed by one stage for each turn that it is in the battle except for the turn that it is switched into the battle.

Carvanha gain the opportunity to evolve into Sharpedo starting at Level 30.

Carvanha is in the Water 2 Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Carvanha 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Carvanha appears at Routes 118 & 119 when Fishing in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

Carvanha appear at the Great Marsh's Safari Game when Fishing with the Super Rod in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Fishing is also how Carvanha can be found in Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 at Village Bridge.

In Pokémon X and Y, Carvanha can be caught in the wild at Route 22 by fishing with the Good Rod. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it can be found at Route 118 and Route 119 by fishing with either the Good Rod or Super Rod.

Carvanha can only be obtained by breeding a Sharpedo in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Spin-off Games

Carvanha is one of the Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Obtain it by snagging it from Cipher Peon Cabol inside Cipher's Lab.

Carvanha appears at Secret Storage 11, Huge Storage 4, Endless Level 10 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Carvanha appears at Stormy Sea 35F-39F, Silver Trench 30F-39F, Far-Off Sea 30F-39F and Fantasy Strait B30 in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. Carvanha appears at Surrounded Sea in Explorers of Time & Explorers of Darkness, and at Enclosed Sea in Explorers of Sky. Both dungeons feature this Pokémon at the same floors: B1-B20. Carvanha is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Wave Seas 9F-16F.

Carvanha appears at Saffra Sea during the Sea Capture Challenge in the first Pokémon Ranger game. Carvanha was absent from Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, but returned in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs in the Coral Sea, appearing in the Deep area, which is right before the Dark area in which vision is limited.

Carvanha can be found at Challengers' Ground Beach 1-4 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Carvanha appears in ten sets. It is listed as a Common Card in the EX Ruby and Sapphire, EX Team Magman vs Team Aqua (2), EX Deoxys, EX Holon Phantoms (Delta Species Card), EX Power Keepers, Secret Wonders, Rising Rivals, and Triumphant sets. Carvanha's lone listing as an Uncommon Card is in the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua set.

Ash had no choice but to cross a river full of swarming Carvanha to get his Corphish to the nearest Pokémon Center in the episode A Corphish Out of Water! A member of Team Aqua named Shelly also used a Carvanha in the episode A Three Team Scheme!, which saw Team Magma and Team Aqua face off against each other for the first time in the Anime.

Movies

Wild Carvanha appear in Destiny Deoxys, the lone film appearance for Carvanha as of writing.

Sapphire If anything invades Carvanha's territory, it will swarm and tear at the intruder with its pointed fangs. On its own, however, this Pokémon turns suddenly timid.
Emerald Carvanha attack ships in swarms, making them sink. Although it is said to be a very vicious Pokémon, it timidly flees as soon as it finds itself alone.
