Trading Card Game
Celebi made its debut in Pokemon 4Ever: Celebi- Voice of the Forest, where it took a young Professer Oak 40 years in the future, to where Ash, Misty and Brock are. Celebi is hunted by the Iron Masked Marauder, a member of Team Rocket.
Celebi resides in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a solid stat distribution, Celebi can function on offensive, defensive, and balanced teams alike due to its ability to perform offensive and supportive roles. It has incredible versatility due to a varied movepool that includes good offensive coverage options and many different useful defensive utility moves. Celebi also has a good ability in Natural Cure that gives it the ability to act as a status sponge and makes it a phenomenal switch in to bulky Water-types as it does not fear Scald burns. It has a fantastic matchup against Stealth Rock setters and entry hazard removers due to its overall solid coverage and typing that gives it an advantageous matchup. Celebi's best set is a Nasty Plot sweeper set that can hit pretty hard with its STABs Giga Drain and Psychic while having great sweeping ability against a large number of Pokémon in the tier. Another solid set is a defensive physically defensive utility set that puts Celebi's supportive movepool to good use by running moves like Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, and Perish Song. It can keep itself sturdy thanks to Recover, allowing for it to remain as a solid defensive mainstay. A Baton Pass set can pass Swords Dance or Nasty Plot boosts to another Pokémon to take full advantage of while acting as a solid pivot. Lastly, an offensive Stealth Rock set gives Celebi the ability to be a hard hitting entry hazard setter thanks to Leaf Storm and a Life Orb and allows for it to match up well against some of UU's entry hazard removers like Empoleon. While Celebi is a phenomenal Pokémon in UU, it is not without flaws, as it is usually going to get walled by a certain Pokémon depending on what coverage it runs. It also has a whopping 7 weaknesses, including glaring weaknesses to Fire, Dark, Ice, and Bug. These weaknesses leave it open to being hit by common priority attacks like Ice Shard, Sucker Punch, and Shadow Sneak, as well as being horribly weak to U-turn.
Celebi is also viable in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. Its typing gives it useful resistances to Fighting, Water, and Electric attacks, allowing it to check many different threats such as Keldeo and Azumarill. Celebi is capable of supporting Pokémon by passing Swords Dance or Nasty Plot boosts with Baton Pass, Stealth Rock, or Healing Wish. Celebi's ability Natural Cure allows it to act as a status sponge while not being as susceptible to status as other defensive Pokémon. Celebi's most common sets are its Baton Pass set which provides physical or special attack boosts to its teammates, its support set that allows it to check many offensive threats, and its Nasty Plot set that gives Celebi offensive prowess while maintaining its ability to check threats. Unfortunately, Celebi's typing comes with 7 weaknesses, including the common Fire, Flying, Bug, Dark, and Ice attacks that makes it vulnerable to Pokémon such as Heatran, Scizor, and Bisharp.
