Charmander (ヒトカゲ) is the fourth Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Fire Type, and it is known as the Lizard Pokémon.

Charmander has the Blaze Ability. With this Ability, the power of its Fire Type attacks increase by 1.5 times when its HP drops below one-third of its maximum. A second Ability is available to Charmander from the Dream World, the Solar Power Ability. This Ability increases the Special Attack stat by 1.5 times during periods of strong sunlight, but at the expense of losing HP on each turn.

Charmander gain the opportunity to evolve at Level 16 into Charmeleon, and can evolve into the majestic yet fierce Charizard at Level 36.

Charmander is in the Egg Groups Monster and Dragon, and its Egg will take approximately 5,120 steps to hatch. It takes Charmander 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

An abandoned Charmander was found by Ash, Misty, and Brock in the episode Charmander the Stray Pokémon. After going to a nearby Pokemon Center they overhear a trainer named Dario saying he abandoned a Charmander. Ash then argues with Dario about how to treat Pokémon, but Nurse Joy broke up the fight. The group resuces the Charmander from a flock of Spearow, but in doing so Pikachu also gave Ash, Misty and Brock an electric shock as well. Charmander would recover in the Pokémon Center's ER that night.

After trying to track it down the next morning, the group falls into a pitfall set up by Team Rocket, who captures Pikachu, but Charmander breaks Pikachu out of the bubble with a Flamethrower, barbecuing Team Rocket in the process. Charmander did the same thing to its former trainer and joined Ash on his journey.

The rest of Charmander's appearances were with other trainers or Wild Charmander.

[edit] Movies

A wild Charmander appeared in the first Pikachu Short "Pikachu's Vacation," and another trainer used a Charmander in the film Mewtwo Strikes Back. Ash's Charmander also makes an appearance in Meloetta's Sparkling Recital.

[edit] Manga

Professor Oak would give a Charmander to Blue as his Starter Pokémon for his Journey. Prior to Blue challenging the Pewter Gym, he had already evolved into a Charmeleon.
