Chikorita is the first Pokémon in the Johto Pokédex, and the 152nd in the National Dex. It is a Grass Type, and it is known as the Leaf Pokémon.

Chikorita has the ability Overgrow. This means that once Chikorita's HP is less than a third all its Grass type moves are 50% stronger. A second Ability is available to Chikorita that come from the Dream World, the Leaf Guard Abillity. This Ability automatically heals its Status problems during periods of strong sunlight.

At level 16 Chikorita has the option to evolve into Bayleef and - at level 32 - into Meganium.

Chikorita is in the egg groups Monster and Plant, and will hatch after approximately 5,280 steps. It takes a Chikorita 1,059,860 experience to reach level 100.

Chikorita takes the appearance of a pale green colored four-legged mammal. The most distinguishing feature of a Chikorita is the large green leaf sprouting out of the top of its head.

Original Games

Chikorita is available as one of the first 3 Starter Pokémon in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, and subsequently Heart Gold and Soul Silver. If the player picks Chikorita as their starter Pokémon, their rival will pick Cyndaquil as theirs; if the player picks Totodile as their starter Pokémon, their rival will pick Chikorita as theirs.

Spin-off Games

Chikorita is obtainable in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness as a Reward for clearing Mt. Battle.

Chikorita appears at Secre Storage 20, Endless Level 14, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Chikorita is available as a starter or partner Pokémon in the first two waves of Mystery Dungeon games. In the first Mystery Dungeon games Chikorita also appears at Joyous Tower 8F-11F. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky Chikorita appears at Mystery Jungle B1-B29. Chikorita also appears at Mystifying Forest B1-B13 and Happy Outlook B1-B19 in Explorers of Time & Darkness; in Explorers of Sky Chikorita appears at Mystic Forest B1-B13 and Joy Cape B1-B19.

Chikorita appears in all three versions of Mystery Dungeon 3. It appears at Weird Mountain 4F-8F in Blazing Adventure Squad, at Weird Rockland 4F-8F and Final Island 1F-5F in Stormy Adventure Squad, and Weird Forest 4F-8F and Final Cave 1F-5F in Light Adventure Squad.

Chikorita appears at Lila Forest in Pokémon Ranger. Chikorita doesn't appear in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, but appears in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs on the Basement Stairs of the Old Mansion on Mitonga Island in the Present, and can be obtained by clearing the Forest Temple Mission Drapion of the Forest Temple with an A Rank.

Trading Card Game

Chikorita appears in a total of ten sets, a McDonalds Promo and the 2009 Movie Premiere Pack. It is listed as a Common Card in the Neo Genesis (2), Expedition (2), EX Hidden Legends, EX Unseen Forces, EX Dragon Frontiers (Delta Species Card), Mysterious Treasures, HeartGold & SoulSilver and Call of Legends sets.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

Ash would capture a Chikorita in the episode Chikorita's Rescue and, after its capture, it would develop a sort of crush on Ash. It would evolve into a Bayleef in the episode Current Events.

Casey, a trainer from the Johto region, would also use a Chikorita in a the episodes The Double Trouble Header and The Bug Stops Here. Jackson, Silver, and Lyra would also use a Chikorita in their respective appearances.

Movies

Ash's Chikorita appeared in the films Spell of the Unown and the follow-up to Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo Returns, along with the Pikachu Short Pikachu & Pichu.

Another trainer used a Chikorita in Arceus and the Jewel of Life, alongside Cyndaquil and Totodile. Wild Chikorita appeared in the Pikachu short Pikachu's Summer Festival.
