Crawdaunt can have one of two Abilities: Hyper Cutter, which prevents opponents from lowering its Attack Statistic with either moves or Abilities, but can still reduce its Attack with a move such as Superpower; or Shell Armor, an Ability that prevents attacks from landing a Critical Hit. A third Ability is available to Crawdaunt from the Dream World, the Adaptability Ability. This Ability doubles the power of all its Water and Dark Type attacks instead of the normal 50% Same Type Attack Boost.

Crawdaunt's Manga info is unknown at this time.
In Generation VI, Crawdaunt finds itself in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a great STAB combination and strong attacks in Knock Off and Crabhammer that are further boosted by Adaptability, Crawdaunt makes its offensive presence known as one of the tier's strongest wallbreakers. It can further boost its Attack stat with a Swords Dance boost, and with priority Aqua Jet, it is not complete dead weight against offense, being able to pick off fast, frail threats. It can also run a Choice Band set that allows for Crawdaunt to have immediate power and be a ruthless wallbreaker, with a good overall movepool to be very difficult to wall. However, Crawdaunt is slow and frail, meaning that it is susceptible to being picked off by faster Pokémon that can take an Aqua Jet.
Crawdaunt is also a viable option in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. With Adaptability, Crawdaunt is one of the biggest powerhouses in OverUsed and can actually 2HKO Pokemon that resist its STABs like Azumarill with a strong Crabhammer. With a Swords Dance boost, Crawdaunt can pick apart slower defensive cores with ease, being one of the biggest nightmares for stall teams to face. Having Aqua Jet can alleviate Crawdaunt's Speed issues somewhat and allows for it to not be complete deadweight against offense. Outside of its Swords Dance set, Crawdaunt can opt for immediate raw power with a Choice Band that can crush slower defensive builds with its powerful STAB attacks. However, Crawdaunt has many flaws that limit its potential, as it is very frail and has a terrible 55 base Speed. This makes it hard for Crawdaunt to switch in and do significant damage, and it has an especially bad matchup against offensive teams that can pick it apart.
