Darkrai () is the 491st Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Dark-Type, and is known as the Pitch-Black Pokémon.
Darkrai uses the Bad Dreams Ability, an Ability that causes opposing Pokémon who fall asleep-or under the Sleep Status Condition when entering battle-while Darkrai is in battle, those opponents lose HP as a result of a Nightmare.
Darkrai doesn't evolve and doesn't have a pre-evolved form.
As its classification implies, Darkrai takes on the appearance of a pitch-black humanoid. It has green eyes, white hair and a red necklace-like scarf around its neck.
Darkrai is a Genderless Pokémon Species.
Darkrai is an Event Pokémon. After receiving the Member Card in either Diamond, Pearl or Platinum, head to the normally-locked building in Canalave City, which is an abandoned inn. Sleeping in the bed triggers the event, in which you travel to Newmoon Island to face Darkrai.
Darkrai is a Boss Pokémon in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia and the final boss of the main storyline. The battle takes place at the top of the Altru Building, and at first, you won't be able to do any damage to it, but after a brief cut sequence, you'll be able to capture it and calm its rage.
Darkrai also appears a second time in Shadows of Almia during the Ranger Net mission "Liberate the Tower." During the course of the mission, Darkrai will join your cause and will make use of its Field Ability "Dark Power" to reach the Boss of this mission. After completing "Liberate the Tower," Darkrai can be sent to either Diamond, Pearl or Platinum.

Trading Card Game
Darkrai is listed in the Team Plasma Gift Set, the Diamond/Pearl Promo & Black/White Promo sets, and is part of the Darkrai & Cresselia Legend Card that's in the Triumphant set. Darkrai is listed as a Rare Card in the Greaet Encounters (2), Majestic Dawn, Rising Rivals and Dark Explorers (2 EX Cards) sets. Darkrai is listed as an Ultra Rare Card in the Great Encounters (Lv. X) set.
A Wild Darkrai makes an appearance in Sleepless in Pre-Battle, causing nightmares in Canalave City as a result of a Team Rocket machine that caused nightmares. After Ash and company went to Full Moon Island and found Cresselia, it would encounter Darkrai and set things right in Canalave City, dispelling the nightmares.
During the Sinnoh League, a trainer named Tobias would use a Darkrai to much success and wouldn't have much trouble against his competition until he faced Ash in The Semi-Final Frontier. While Darkrai would defeat Ash's Heracross, Torkoal and Gible, it would finally be defeated by Sceptile, the only time that Tobias had to substitute a Pokémon during his Sinnoh League run to the Championship.
Darkrai takes on a starring role in The Rise of Darkrai. While it was apparently causing problems at first, it would eventually help Ash and Dawn save the day and stop the fighting between Dialga and Palkia.
Darkrai also makes an appearance in Arceus and the Jewel of Life.
Sird would use Darkrai to battle Mewtwo, who was aligned with Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Silver, in an effort to prevent her from recapturing Deoxys. The high-powered clash between the two Pokémon would cause these five Pokédex holders to become petrified, for a time.
Darkrai finds itself in the Uber Tier with high Speed and Special Attack along with its signature move Dark Void that allows it to put a counter or check to sleep, making it hard to handle with ease. It is capable of threatening the majority of the metagame with its good coverage and can boost its solid Special Attack to greater levels with Nasty Plot. Bad Dreams is a neat ability to go along with Dark Void as it deals passive damage that makes it easier for Darkrai to take out certain Pokemon. However, Darkrai is relatively frail by Ubers standards, which leaves it vulnerable to Choice Scarf Pokemon, priority, or Sleep Talk users to revenge kill it.
Darkrai doesn't learn any moves by way of Breeding.
