Darmanitan first appeared in the Best Wishes series episode "Saving Darmanitan From the Bell!" Both its Standard and Zen Modes appeared in this episode. Darmanitan and two Darumaka lived in the Clock Tower. Due to the poor condition of the Tower, it turned into a state of disrepair causing the Bell to fall. Darmanitan activated it's Zen Mode ability to stop the bell from destroying the levels within the tower, keeping it afloat above it's head with Psychic. The two Darumaka stole food from around the town in order to keep the Darmanitan's energy up.
Darmanitan also made an appearance in BW022 when an unnamed trainer used a Darmanitan to stop a swarm of Venipede.

 Pokémon Information
 Competitive Battling
Darmanitan is a part of the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a massive base 140 Attack and Sheer Force to back up its STAB Flare Blitz, Darmanitan can be a ruthless powerhouse. A solid base 95 Speed sets it ahead of a good chunk of the tier, and with a Choice Scarf, Darmanitan can act as a solid late-game cleaner and pivot with U-turn. Darmanitan has good overall coverage options with Superpower and Earthquake, and some of its coverage moves, like Rock Slide, are also boosted by Sheer Force. Other than its common Choice Scarf set, Darmanitan can also use a wallbreaker set with a Choice Band or Life Orb, with the former giving Darmanitan all the raw power it can get and the latter allowing for it to switch up its moves while not suffering the consequences of Life Orb recoil when using a Sheer Force boosted attack. However, Darmanitan suffers from having very lackluster bulk and having a massive drawback in its STAB Flare Blitz with heavy recoil.
Zen Darmanitan is completely irrelevant in competitive battling due to having to cut Darmanitan's HP in half for it to activate and it being very slow, which can make it easy to pick off.
