Dratini (ミニリュウ) is the 147th Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Dragon Type, and is known as the Dragon Pokémon.
Dratini uses the Shed Skin Ability. This Ability gives it a 1-in-3 chance of recovering from a Status Condition every turn. A second Ability is available to Dratini from the Dream World, the Marvel Scale Ability. This Ability increases its Defense by 50% whenever it gets afflicted with a Status Condition.
Dratini gain the opportunity to evolve into Dragonair starting at Level 30, and can evolve a second time into Dragonite at Level 55.
Dratini is in the Egg Groups Dragon and Water 1, and its Egg takes approximately 10,240 Steps to hatch. It takes Dratini 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Dratini takes on the appearance of a blue serpentine dragon with fins on the side of its face. Its nose is silver in color and round in shape. Its underbelly is white.

Dratini appears at the Safari Zone by way of Fishing in Red, Blue and Yellow. In Gold, Silver and Crystal, Dratini could also be found in the Dragon's Den by Fishing or Surfing, and at Route 45 by way of Fishing.
Dratini doesn't appear in Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald, but can be found at the Safari Zone in Fire Red and Leaf Green by Fishing. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Dratini appear on the fourth floor of Mt. Coronet by Fishing with a Super Rod. Dratini reprises its appearance at the Dragon's Den in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, but can also be found at the Safari Zone's Swamp area, either by Fishing with a Super Rod, or by using a Good Rod after 10 Water Objects have been placed in the area.
Dratini appears at Dragonspiral Tower when Fishing in Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.

Dratini appears at the Phobos Submarine, Endless Level 39, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.
Dratini appears at Silver Trench 50F-59F, Wyvern Hill 1F-5F and Far-Off Sea 50F-59F in the first set of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky Dratini can be found at Craggy Coast B1-B9, The Nightmare B1-B17 at random, and Marine Resort B1-B19 at random. Dratini is exclusive to Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Ruby Lake B1-B12.
Dratini appears at Almia Castle in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, the only appearance that Dratini makes in the Pokémon Ranger series.
Dratini can be found at World Axle Lake B2 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.
Dratini appears at Nixtorm and Dragnor in Pokémon Conquest.

A total of 13 different Dratini trading cards have been released in the Trading Card Game. It is listed as a Common Card in the Team Rocket, Neo Destiny, Expedition, EX Team Rocket Returns (2), EX Delta Species (2 Delta Species Cards), EX Dragon Frontiers (Delta Species Card), Legends Awakened and Triumphant sets. Dratini is listed as an Uncommon Card in the Base, Gym Heroes and EX Dragon sets.

Dratini's first appearance was during an episode that didn't air in English-speaking audiences including the United States because the Safari Zone's Warden excessive usage of a projectile weapon. The Dratini that the Warden was trying to protect evolved into a Dragonair during this episode.
In a similar twist to the episode that wasn't aired, Clair's Dratini would evolve into a Dragonair after escaping the clutches of Team Rocket during the episode Beauty is Skin Deep.
