Dugtrio (Pokédex. It is a Ground-Type, and it is known as the Mole Pokémon.) is the 51st Pokémon in the
Dugtrio can use one of two Abilities: Sand Veil, which increases its Evasion by one stage during a Sandstorm; or Arena Trap, which prevents opposing Pokémon from running or switching out unless it has Levitate or is a Flying-Type. Dugtrio's Hidden Ability is the Sand Force Ability, which increases the power of its Ground, Rock and Steel-Type Pokémon by 33% during a Sandstorm.
Diglett can evolve into Dugtrio at Level 26.
Dugtrio is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Dugtrio One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Dugtrio is very similar to Diglett, its pre-evolution. Instead of one head there are three, they could be fused together however this is uncertain.
Dugtrio has no gender differences.
Dugtrio makes appearances at Endless Levels 8 & 23, Forever Level 57 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.
The only way to obtain a Dugtrio in the first set of Mystery Dungeon games is to evolve a Diglett. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Dugtrio can be found at Shimmer Desert 1F-9F, which is known as Shimmering Desert 1F-9F in Explorers of Sky. Dugtrio can be found in all three versions of Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing in each game's Element-themed area 21F-29F and Final-themed area with floors varying depending on the game.
Dugtrio can be found in Croca Tunnel in Pokémon Ranger, but the Field Assists Cross and Break x3 are required to reach the area in which it resides. This is the only Pokémon Ranger game that Dugtrio has appeared in as of writing.
Dugtrio can be found in the Cavern Zone in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure. To obtain Dugtrio, fix the broken rails, then speak to it. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Dugtrio can be found in the Verdant Courts section of the Arbor Area. Speak to Dugtrio to befriend it.
Trading Card Game
Dugtrio is listed in 11 different sets. It is listed as a Common Card in the Skyridge set; as an Uncommon Card in the XY Set; and as a Rare Card in the Base, Team Rocket (2), Gym Challenge, Expedition (2), EX FireRed and LeafGreen, EX Crystal Guardians, Secret Wonders, Platinum and Triumphant sets.
Wild Dugtrio would make an appearance in Dig Those Diglett after Ash and company pursued some Diglett into the woods. It was here in which they understood why no one's Pokémon wanted to exit their Poké Balls when commanded.
Katie would use a Dugtrio in her battle against Ash in Shocks and Bonds. It would defeat Pikachu, but lose to Glalie after Ash had it use a Headbutt on the ground to force Dugtrio to pop up from the underground, then hit it with an Ice Beam.
Wild Dugtrio make appearances in Giratina and the Sky Warrior, along with the Pikachu Shorts "Pikachu's Vacation," "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure," "Pikachu & Pichu" and "Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade."
Giovanni would use a Dugtrio to take on Red at Viridian Gym in Chapter 38. His Dugtrio would break the switches on each of Red's Poké Balls, preventing Red from summoning any of his Pokémon from them......except for his Pikachu, Pika.
Dugtrio finds itself in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. With a very unique ability in Arena Trap, Dugtrio carves out its niche as a trapper that can get rid of certain Pokémon such as Registeel, Drapion, and Virizion to pave the way for another Pokémon to sweep. Its movepool is sufficient enough to support a team very well, as it has Aerial Ace to revenge kill one of the tier's biggest threats in Virizion, Sucker Punch to pick off faster threats, and Memento to allow for a set-up sweeper like Fletchinder to get its opportunity to wreak havoc. Its Speed stat is great as it outspeeds the majority of the metagame, but the rest of its stats are pitiful, including its mediocre at best base 80 Attack. This leads to Dugtrio being incapable of knocking out some of the threats that it is supposed to trap like Diancie and Rhyperior. Dugtrio is also susceptible to being easily picked off by priority attacks, especially Ice Shard and Sucker Punch, although the latter can be avoided through the use of Substitute.
Dugtrio is usable in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With the ability to act as a revenge killer and trapper due to Arena Trap and a high Speed stat, Dugtrio can be very useful in terms of supporting a sweeper that would have trouble with Pokémon easily disposed by Dugtrio. However, its extreme frailty and low power even when backed up by a Life Orb or Choice Band makes Dugtrio a risky Pokémon to use, but very rewarding when used correctly.
Dugtrio is also viable in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. With the ability to trap grounded non-Ghost Pokémon, Dugtrio can extremely useful when trying to dispose of Pokémon that give sweepers trouble. It is most notable for being able to knock out Heatran and Tyranitar, two Pokémon that can stand in the way of a potential Talonflame or Serperior sweep. Unfortunately, Dugtrio's stats leave a lot to be desired, as its pitiful defensive stats force it to run a Focus Sash while its Attack stat is extremely underwhelming.
