Entei is a fire pokemon and is one of the three Legendary Beasts, along with Raikou and Suicune. It made its debut in Pokemon Gold and Silver. According to in-game legend, Entei and its fellow Beasts were re-incarnated by Ho-oh after a Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon died in a fire in the Burnt Tower in Ecruteak City. Other in-game myths claim that it was born when a volcano erupted. It is said that its roars cause volcanic eruptions around the world. It does not have an evolution chain.
Entei looks like a lion, covered in brown fur. It has a thick mane that covers its neck and grey plates surrounding a cape on its back. It has a red face, with a white plate on its upper lip, and a three pointed crest on its forehead, giving the impression of a samurai's helmet. It seems that Entei is not a unique pokemon because the Pokedex entries state that one is born every time a new volcano is born, and in the pokemon ranger game the characters say "An Entei!" hinting that there is more than one.
As Entei is a Legendary Pokemon it is regarded as a genderless species.
Entei does not have a specific place that is stays in, and seems to constantly be on the move.
In The Anime
In the Anime Entei's main roles was in the Pokémon Movie 3: Spell of the Unown, and was an illusion wished to appear by a little girl within the film. Another Entei, a real one, appears in the anime sending Team Rocket blasting away using Flamethrower.
In the Manga
The Legendary Beasts are woken by Yellow, in the Anime, and they race to the Kanto, and Johto regions to find trainers who can help them free Ho-oh.
Entei resides in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a great STAB move in Sacred Fire, previously exclusive to Ho-oh, that burns the opposing foe 50% of the time, Entei gained a massive spike in viability. It can wear down supposed checks quite a bit with Sacred Fire burns and coupled with entry hazards, Entei can be a troublesome Pokémon to deal with. Entei's access to Extreme Speed is great as it can become a late-game cleaner with a strong STAB and decent Speed to outpace a decent portion of the metagame. Entei's Choice Band set is its most viable set by far, as it has great power with STAB moves Sacred Fire and Flare Blitz. However, Entei is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards, including a weakness to Stealth Rock that can shorten its longevity quite a bit. Entei is also forced to run an Adamant nature due to Flare Blitz and Extreme Speed being event moves, so its Speed stat is less impressive when considering that.
Entei is also a viable option in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. With Sacred Fire in its arsenal, Entei can burn supposed checks like Garchomp and Azumarill, crippling them for the rest of the match. Access to strong priority in Extreme Speed allows Entei to pick off faster threats like Latios and gives Entei great revenge killing capabilities. However, Entei is walled by certain prominent forces in the metagame like Rotom-W, and its reliance on weak coverage moves like Bulldoze to get past Pokémon like Heatran can be a hindrance considering set-up sweepers like Manaphy and Mega Pinsir can take full advantage when Entei is locked into a move when equipped with a Choice Band. Entei also has common weaknesses that can be taken advantage by Pokémon like Keldeo, and it is also hit by all forms of entry hazards, meaning that its longevity will be short if it switches into entry hazards too many times.
