Game Information

Competitive Battling

Exeggutor is in the Borderline 4 (BL4) tier of competitive battling, meaning that it is banned from the PU tier but not used enough to be a part of the Neverused (NU) tier. With an excellent Special Attack stat, Chlorophyll to double its low Speed stat when in sun conditions, a powerful STAB in Solar Beam, great secondary STAB in Psyshock to handle Assault Vest users like Hariyama and Magmortar, and Sleep Powder to neutralize any Pokémon that walls it, Exeggutor is a very threatening weather sweeper. It has decent physical bulk that allows for it to tank certain hits like Earthquake from Rhydon or Close Combat from Hariyama as well as priority attacks like Mach Punch and Aqua Jet. However, while Exeggutor is an extremely powerful threat under sun, it has certain flaws that restrict it from being overwhelming. It has a weakness to Sucker Punch, an extremely common priority attack, which forces it to rely more on Sleep Powder than it would like. Its special bulk is rather mediocre, making it so that certain powerful attacks that it may resist can 2HKO it, such as Samurott's Hydro Pump when outside of sun and Choice Specs Mesprit's Psychic. Exeggutor is very slow without the sun, making it heavily reliant on it to actually do damage and also making it susceptible to being revenge killed due to numerous common weaknesses to Bug, Dark, Ice, and Ghost. Even with the sun, Exeggutor can be outsped by certain Choice Scarf users like Rotom and Jynx that can easily take it out. It requires a lot of support to be effective, but Exeggutor's offensive niche as a sun sweeper cannot be underestimated.
