Future Sight is like Doom Desire (these two moves can not be used during the duration of one another), in that it attacks the user after 3 turns instead of during the turn it is used. On the turn it is used, it records the Special Attack and Special Defense of the target Pokémon, then uses these for the damage calculation 3 turns later, even if the original target has fainted or been switched out. When the move is used, the presence of Protect, Detect or Endure is also recorded, and will block the move as normal when it hits 2 turns after its initial use.
Future Sight can not score a Critical Hit.
When the move was introduced in Generation II, Future Sight had a Base Power of 80, an Accuracy of 90% and 15 PP. Future Sight's Base Power and Accuracy were both increased to 100 in Generation V, but the move's PP was reduced to 10. In Generation VI Future Sight's Base Power was increased to 120.
