Granbull is in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. With the common presence of Fighting-, Dark-, and Dragon-types in the tier, Granbull can act as a nice stop to those threats and can find a niche on both offensive and defensive teams due to its nice typing. Granbull has a solid base 120 Attack stat that sets it apart from other Fairy-types due to a better overall offensive prowess. Intimidate is a great ability that further bolsters Granbull's bulk and allows for it to take on some set-up sweepers one-on-one, such as Scrafty and Swords Dance Virizion. With some great utility moves in Heal Bell, Thunder Wave, and Roar, Granbull can provide solid support for teams. Its best set is a defensive set that acts as a check to many opposing threats in the tier while providing cleric support and being able to paralyze certain threats or phaze out opposing switch ins. Granbull can also run a more offensive set that has nice offensive moves to work with, such as STAB Play Rough, Earthquake, Fire Punch, and Close Combat. This set acts more as an offensive check to opposing threats and has much more power than the defensive set, especially with a Choice Band. However, Granbull faces competition from Aromatisse and Togetic as a Fairy-type, as both have access to reliable recovery and have solid utility moves, with the former having Wish and the latter having Defog. Granbull's Special Defense is pitiful, allowing for strong offensive threats like Delphox and Meloetta to heavily pressure it with their powerful STAB attacks. Granbull also is very slow, being outsped by the majority of the tier, even including some walls like Alomomola and Jellicent which can outstall Granbull.
Granbull is also usable in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a nice pure Fairy-typing, decent Attack and defense, and a great ability in Intimidate, Granbull can act as a decent Pokémon offensively and defensively. It has a nice movepool defensively and offensively, with access to Heal Bell, Thunder Wave, Roar, Play Rough, and Earthquake. Its defensive set is the best set due to having more overall utility and better success against threats like Haxorus, but an offensive set is usable due to Granbull's high base 120 Attack. However, Granbull is very slow, cannot outspeed a decent chunk of walls, has bad Special Defense, and requires a lot of team support. It also faces immense competition from other Fairy-types like Florges, Sylveon, and even Aromatisse, all of which have better overall bulk and can provide greater utility than Granbull as a defensive Fairy-type.
