Groudon (グラードン) is the 199th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Ground Type, and it is known as the Continent Pokémon.

Groudon uses the Drought Ability. When Groudon enters the battle, the weather changes to Clear Skies, an effect that remains until the weather is changed by a different weather-altering move, such as Sandstorm or Rain Dance, or switching in a Pokémon that has a different weather-altering Ability, such as Drizzle or Sand Stream.

The effects of Groudon's Ability can be nullified by a Pokémon with either the Air Lock or Cloud Nine Abilities.

Groudon does not evolve and doesn't have a pre-evolved form.

Groudon is listed in the Undiscovered Egg Group; like most Legendary Pokémon it cannot breed. It takes Groudon 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Biology

[edit] Physiology

Groudon takes on the appearance of a red dinosaur with spikes on its neck and tail, and ancient markings on its body, arms, legs, and tail.

[edit] Gender Differences

Groudon is a Genderless Pokémon.

[edit] Game Information

[edit] Original Games

Groudon appears inside the Cave of Origin in Ruby. In Emerald, it appears at Terra Cave, which can be found by speaking to an individual at the Weather Institute after defeating the Elite Four.

The only other game in which Groudon appears in is Soul Silver, in which it appears at the Embedded Tower off the lower part of Route 47 after receiving the Red Orb from Mr. Pokémon.

[edit] Spin-Off Games

Groudon does not appear very often, limited to appearing at Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Groudon appears inside the Deepest Grounds of Magma Cavern on the Third Floor in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, Groudon appears at the Interior of Shimmer Desert. The dungeon is called Shimmering Desert in Explorers of Sky, but Groudon is still found in the Interior. Groudon is exclusive to Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing on the 30th Floor of Fire Mountains.

Groudon only appears during missions in Pokémon Ranger. Groudon does not appear in either of the two sequels.

Groudon appears in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure after accumulating a score greater than 40,000 on "Blaziken's Boulder Bash".

Groudon can be found in any of the "Magma" stages in Pokémon Rumble Blast after completing the game.

To obtain Groudon in Pokémon Conquest, you need to Clear Shingen's Episode and have Facilities at a level greater than or equal to 2. After fulfilling both conditions Groudon can be found at Valora.

[edit] Trading Card Game

Groudon is listed in a total of 10 sets, a Play Promotional Card, two Nintendo Promos, a Pokémon Card Game Promos as a Rare Card, a special Legend Card in the Undaunted set, and two new Groudon Cards in the Hail Blizzard Set: one Rare and one Hidden Card, but both are EX Cards.

Groudon is listed as a Rare Card in the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua, EX Hidden Legends (EX Card), EX Emerald (2), EX Delta Species (Shiny Card), EX Crystal Guardians, Legends Awakened, Call of Legends (2; 1 Secret Legend Card), and Dark Explorers (2 EX Cards) sets.

[edit] Other Appearances

Groudon appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as one of the Pokémon to appear from a Poké Ball. It stays stationary, limiting its motions to roaring and turning itself around, but it takes up a lot of space and an opponent that collides with it gets sent flying.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Under the possession of the Blue Orb, Ash's Pikachu would break Groudon out of its prison in the episode The Scuffle of Legends. Thanks to the efforts of Ash, Lance, May and Brock, along with their Pokémon, they were able to successfully quell the fighting between the two Legendary Pokémon, Groudon and Kyogre.

[edit] Movies

A fake Groudon was one of the featured Pokémon in the film Jirachi Wishmaker. A Wild Groudon would also appear in The Rise of Darkrai and Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

[edit] Manga

Groudon would be awoken from its slumber by Team Magma, and by using the Red Orb, Maxie would control Groudon, causing droughts and earthquakes throughout the Hoenn region. While Roxanne, Brawley and Wallace would try to stop the ancient land titan, they would be unsuccessful.

Groudon would eventually clash with Kyogre at Sootopolis City, a battle that would threaten the destruction of the entire region. Norman would bring Rayquaza to Sootopolis City, and with the assistance of both Ruby and the ancient orbs, the rage of the two titans would be quelled.

Groudon would appear in a number of different chapters starting with Chapter 214 and ending at Chapter 264.

[edit] Pokémon Information

[edit] Competitive Battling

Groudon finds itself in the Uber Tier of Competitive Battling. While it is capable of running a support set, it brings both permanent sunlight with its Ability, and a lot of pain with a very high Attack and very high Defense. While its Speed isn't that good when all things are taken into account, it can use Rock Polish to boost its Speed.

Special Attacks will hurt Groudon greatly, and Poisoning it with Toxic will help to bring it down.
