Growlithe (Pokédex. It is a Fire-Type, and it is known as the Puppy Pokémon.) is the 58th Pokémon in the
Growlithe can use one of two abilities: Intimidate, which lowers the opponent's Attack stat by one stage upon this Pokémon's entry into the battle; or Flash Fire, which increases the power of its Fire-Type attacks when it gets hit by a Fire-Type attack, also giving it an immunity to Fire moves. A third Ability is available to Growlithe from the Dream World, the Justified Ability, an Ability will cause Growlithe's Attack to increase by one stage when it gets hit by a Dark Type attack.
Growlithe is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Growlithe 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Growlithe resembles a puppy with bright orange fur and black stripes. The rest of its fur is cream in color.

 Original Games
Growlithe reprises its appearance from Pokémon Red in Fire Red, appearing on Routes 7, 8, and the Pokémon Mansion. The only way to obtain a Growlithe in the other Generation III games is by trading for one, which also applies for Pokémon Soul Silver.
With Pokémon Fire Red inserted into the Game Boy Advance slot of a Nintendo DS, Growlithe will appear on Routes 201 and 202 after the National Pokédex has been obtained in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. This isn't required in Pokémon Heart Gold, as Growlithe appears on Routes 7, 8, 36, 37 and 48.

Growlithe appears at Endless Levels 55 & 75, Forever Level 5 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!
Growlithe appears at Mt. Thunder 9F & 10F, and Mt. Thunder Mountaintop 1F & 2F in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Growlithe appears at Giant Volcano at random on the first ten floors and 11F-19F, and at Dark Crater B1-B13. Growlithe is exclusive to Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Fire Mountains 6F-15F.
Growlithe can be found at Echo Valley Cave 1-3, Sunny Seashore Magma 4-3 and World Axle Magma B1 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

It is listed as a Common Card in the Gym Heroes, Gym Challenge, Neo Destiny, Aquapolis, Skyridge, EX Sandstorm, EX FireRed and Leaf Green, EX Legend Maker, Secret Wonders, Rising Rivals, Supreme Victors, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and Next Destinies (2) sets. Growlithe is listed as an Uncommon Card in the Base, Gym Heroes and Aquapolis sets.

James of Team Rocket was revealed to have a Growlithe living with his parents in the episode Holy Matrimony!. Nicknamed "Growlie," James has known this Growlithe since childhood. Growlie would appear a second time in the episode The Treasure is All Mine!
Officer Jenny has appeared with a Growlithe in a number of different episodes in many different regions.
Wild Growlithe appear in the film Destiny Deoxys and the Pikachu Short Pikachu's Vacation.
Blaine uses a Growlithe that can use his keen sense of smell to track their whereabouts. This Growlithe makes appearances in Chapters 48, 49 & 79.
