Inkay can use one of two Abilities: Contrary, which reverses the intended effects of moves that adjust its Statistics; or Suction Cups, which prevents it from being forced out of battle via an opponent's attack. Inkay's Hidden Ability is Infiltrator, which ignores the protections and increased Statistics caused by defensive screens such as Reflect or Safeguard.
Inkay gain the opportunity to evolve into Malamar starting at Level 30 whilst holding the Nintendo 3DS upside-down.
Inkay takes on the appearance of a small, bluish-purple squid with six small tentacles and two tendrils attached to its head. The top of its head has light spots on it.
Inkay doesn't have any visible differences to differentiate between male and female.
