Kecleon (カクレオン) is the 145th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Normal type, and is known as the Color Swap Pokémon.

Kecleon uses the Color Change Ability. This Ability changes Kecleon's type to the type of the last damage-dealing attack that struck it. Potentially, this could allow Kecleon to temporarily become a pure Flying Type during the battle.

Kecleon does not evolve and does not have a pre-evolved form.

Kecleon is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Kecleon 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Original Games

Kecleon appears in the grass of Routes 118, 119, 120, 121 and 123 in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Additionally, there are some hidden Kecleon in Fortree City and Route 120; finding them requires use of the Devon Scope.

In Diamond, Kecleon appears at the North end of Route 210 when the Poké Radar is used, and in Platinum Kecleon appears as one of the Daily Binocular Pokémon after the National Pokédex is obtained.

Kecleon can be found at the Nature Preserve in Black 2 and White 2.

Spin-off Games

Kecleon is limited to appearing at Huge Storage 3, Trozei Battle and and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Kecleon appears at the shops located within any of the dungeons in the first two rounds of Mystery Dungeon games. Kecleon appears in all 3 versions of Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at each games' Legendary-themed and Final-themed areas. Additionally, Kecleon appears on the eleventh floor of Weird Forest in Light Adventure Squad.

Kecleon appears between Fall City and the Night Duty Factory in Pokémon Ranger, but it is invisible. This is also Kecleon's only appearance in the Pokémon Ranger subseries to date.

Kecleon can be found at the Cove Town's Cove Area in PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond after completing the game. To befriend it you'll have to find where it is hiding, as it is hidden behind a building in the area.

Kecleon can be found at Shimmering Lake Treetops 2-4 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Trading Card Game

Kecleon appears in four sets and the Pokémon E-Reader promotion. Kecleon is listed as a Common Card in the Rising Rivals set, an Uncommon Card in the EX Legend Maker and Secret Wonders sets, and as a Rare card in the EX Sandstorm set.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

Kecleon was one of the first Generation III Pokémon to appear in the anime, appearing in the episode The Kecleon Caper! with two female trainers. Harrison used a Kecleon in his Johto League battle against Ash. Pikachu defeated Kecleon at the start of this matchup.

Movies

Kecleon appears in the Pikachu Shorts Pikachu's Pikaboo and Meloetta's Sparkling Recital, but not any of the films.

Manga

Wally would capture a Kecleon in the Petalburg Woods in Chapter 187, and would use it in a few later chapters.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Kecleon finds itself in the Neverused (NU) tier of competitive battling. With a great offensive movepool that gives it well-rounded coverage and Protean to give it STAB on every attack, Kecleon functions as a good niche wallbreaker that can break through common Normal-type checks. With coverage moves like Fire Blast, Iron Tail, and Grass Knot, Kecleon can do significant damage against Pokémon like Steelix, Gourgeist-XL, Mega Audino, Gastrodon, and Rhydon. It also has one of the tier's strongest Sucker Punches, allowing for it to hit faster, frailer foes hard with a STAB priority attack. However, Kecleon suffers greatly in terms of its Speed stat, as it has to invest heavily in order to outspeed certain walls and makes it susceptible against faster teams that can easily tank a Sucker Punch. Kecleon's bulk is relatively average, which limits its switch-in opportunities as neutral hits will leave a dent.
