Magby (Johto Pokédex. It is a Fire-Type, and is known as the Live Coal Pokémon.) is the 152nd Pokémon in the
Magby uses the Flame Body Ability, an Ability that has a 30% chance of afflicting an opponent with a Burn if that opponent uses an attack that requires physical contact. A second Ability is available to Magby from the Dream World, the Vital Spirit Ability. This Ability gives it an immunity to the Sleep Status Condition.
Magby is in the Undiscovered Egg Group, but a Magby Egg can be bred if a Magmar or Magmortar breeds, an Egg that takes approximately 6,400 Steps to hatch. It takes Magby One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Magby is predominantly red, however it has a yellow spot on its lower torso and its mouth. Magby has several large bumps on its head, and a spike on its back. It also has a short tail.

 Original Games
In the first two Generations that Magby can appear in, the only way to obtain one is to breed a Magmar. Wild Maby can be found at Route 227 and Stark Mountain in Diamond and Pearl if Leaf Green is inserted into the Game Boy Advance Slot of the Nintendo DS. Magby also appear on the Pokéwalker courses Rugged Road and Amity Meadow, which can then be transferred to Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
 Spin-Off Games
Magby can be found at Secret Storage 8 & 13, Endless Level 13 in Pokémon Trozei!.
Magby appear at Mt. Blaze 1F-5F, Firery Field 6F-9F, Wish Cave 72F-76F and Joyous Tower 46F-51F & 72F-76F in the first set of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Magby can be found at Steam Cave 1F-8F and Final Maze B1-B48. Magby is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Final Cave 9F-12F.
Magby can be found in Pueltown in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Magby inhabit the Eastern end of Mitonga Road in the Present, and can be obtained in the Past by completing the Fire Temple mission "A Scorching Shower of Flames" with an A Rank.
Magby can be found at Echo Valley Cave 1-3 and Firebreathing Mountain Magma 3-3 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Magby is listed as a Common Card in the EX Legend Maker and Mysterious Treasures sets; as an Uncommon Card in the Triumphant and Call of Legends sets; and as a Rare Card in the Neo Genesis, Expedition (2) and EX Team Rocket Returns sets.
 Anime/Manga Information
Magby debuted alongside Satchel in the episode You're A Star, Larvitar, an episode in which it evolved into a Magmar. In the episode You Said A Mouthful!, a trainer named Anthony would have a Magby use Flamethrower from within the mouth of a Pelipper. Roland, who is related to Bertha of the Elite Four would appear with his own Magby in An ELite Coverup!.
Wild Magby make an appearance in Giratina and the Sky Warrior and the Pikachu Short "Pikachu & Pichu."
