Mamoswine can have one of two Abilities: Oblivious, which gives it an immunity to becoming infatuated with an opposing Pokémon; or Snow Cloak, which increases its Evasion by one level during a Hailstorm. A third Ability is available to Mamoswine from the Dream World, the Thick Fat Ability. This Ability reduces the amount of damage that it takes from Fire and Ice-type attacks by 50%.
Mamoswine is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Mamoswine 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Mamoswine takes on the appearance of a brown mammoth. Unlike Piloswine, Mamoswine's eyes are not obstructed by fur and are open.
A Female Mamoswine has shorter tusks than a Male Mamoswine.
Mamoswine appears at Crevice Cave B1-B10 & DPB1-B4 and Mt. Avalanche B1-B19 in Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky. Mamoswine is exclusive to Dungeon Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Weird Mountain 5F-13F.
Mamoswine can be found at Frozen Tundra Glacier 4-1 in Pokémon Rumble Blast after completing the game.
Trading Card Game
Mamoswine appears in four sets and the 11th Movie Commemoration Set. It is listed as a Rare Card in the Legends Awakened, Stormfront, Rising Rivals (SP Card: Gym Leader Candice), and Triumphant sets.
Dawn would obtain a Mamoswine after her Piloswine evolved during the episode A Breed Stampede. Similar to what Ash dealt with after Charizard evolved, Mamoswine wouldn't listen to Dawn, but it would earn the trust of its Trainer after Dawn helped nurse it back to health overnight in the episode Trials and Adulations!.
Since then, Mamoswine has been a force to be reckoned with in Dawn's lineup of Pokémon.
A Wild Mamoswine appeared during the film Giratina and the Sky Warrior. Dawn's Mamoswine appeared in the films Arceus and the Jewel of Life and Zoroark: Master of Illusions, along with the Pikachu Shorts Pikachu's Great Sparking Search and Pikachu's Really Mysterious Adventure.
Mamoswine's Manga Information is unknown as of writing.
Mamoswine resides in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a huge 130 base Attack, Mamoswine is the strongest Ground-type in the tier with strong Ice-type STAB attacks to back up its great coverage. Ice Shard is a strong priority move that allows Mamoswine to pick off weakened faster threats super effectively. Mamoswine's best set is its Life Orb set that can wallbreak and revenge kill due to its ridiculous power. It can run a Focus Sash lead set with Stealth Rock that still hits relatively hard while being able to immensely weaken certain Pokémon with Endeavor once it is knocked down to its Focus Sash. Despite these top-tier threat qualities, Mamoswine does suffer from a lackluster defensive typing and poor Speed stat that makes it hard to get onto the field with ease. Faster threats or priority users that can tank an Ice Shard can be highly problematic for Mamoswine if it is weakened.
Mamoswine is also a viable option in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. Mamoswine is a strong wallbreaking Pokémon with great overall coverage and a high Attack stat that makes it difficult to switch into. Thanks to its decent bulk and immunity to Electric attacks, Mamoswine can act as a great check to them. Due to its access to a priority move in Ice Shard, Mamoswine can pick off faster threats like Latios and Tornadus-T. However, Mamoswine has a low Speed stat and a bad defensive typing that leaves it vulnerable to being destroyed by many of the top-tier threats in the tier. Mamoswine also faces immense competition from Weavile and Kyurem-B, both of which have their advantages as an offensive Ice-type with Weavile having a powerful STAB Knock Off and being much faster while Kyurem-B can use a special attacking STAB with Ice Beam while having an overall more diverse movepool. Mamoswine also struggles to get past some of the bulky Steel-types in the tier, such as Skarmory and Mega Scizor.
