Mega Altaria (Mega Evolution of Altaria activated by using Mega Stone, was revealed on August 8, 2014 after a leak of the September Edition of CoroCoro, alongside Mega Lopunny and Mega Salamence. Upon Mega Evolution, it retains its Dragon-typing but loses its Flying-typing and is replaced by Fairy-typing.), the
In the Sixth Generation, Mega Altaria finds itself in the Borderline (BL) tier of competitive battling, meaning that it is not used enough to be a part of the Overused (OU) tier but is too broken to be in the Underused (UU) tier. Mega Altaria's unique Dragon/Fairy typing gives it many useful resistances which allows it to check Pokemon like Keldeo and Mega Sableye. With solid offensive stats and Pixilate giving it strong Fairy STAB, Mega Altaria can take a physical or special attacking route. Mega Altaria is best used as an offensive Dragon Dance sweeper which patches up Mega Altaria's mediocre speed and makes it a threatening sweeper. Mega Altaria can also choose to go a more defensive route to take advantage of its great typing and Heal Bell as a supporting move. Mega Altaria is also a great special attacking threat with its strong Pixilate boosted Hyper Voice doing great damage to anything that does not resist it. It can take a defensive approach in sweeping with Dragon Dance and invest in bulk to check threats with more reliability and still have the potential to sweep. Mega Altaria's only major downfall is its speed, which leaves it to be outsped by many offensive Pokemon in the tier, but that can be remedied by Dragon Dance boosts.
