Competitive Battling

Mega Blastoise is a part of the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With great powerful attacks thanks to Mega Launcher, Mega Blastoise is a great option for teams as it can be a strong threat with pseudo-STAB options like Dark Pulse, Dragon Pulse, and Aura Sphere. Its ability to remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin while having good overall bulk allows for Mega Blastoise to be a nice bulky wallbreaking Pokémon that can support its team very well while beating Ghost-types thanks to Dark Pulse. Its ability to wear down opposing foes with coverage attacks and potential Scald burns makes it a troubling Pokémon to deal with. Due to an expansive offensive movepool, Mega Blastoise can even opt for an all-out attacking set that forgoes Rapid Spin for another coverage move to be even harder to wall. However, Mega Blastoise lacks reliable recovery, which makes it worn down by status.

Mega Blastoise is also an option in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. It carves out a decent niche due to its ability to act as a bulky Rapid Spin user with good power and coverage moves to threaten other entry hazard setters like Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Ferrothorn. Its Mega Launcher ability makes it a decent wallbreaker due to a significant boost in a good chunk of its coverage options. However, Mega Blastoise suffers from lacking reliable recovery and having a mediocre Speed stat. It also takes up a Mega slot and can be hard to fit on teams due to that reason. Mega Blastoise also receives stiff competition as a Rapid Spin user from Starmie, which does not take up a Mega slot, has reliable recovery in Recover, and can matchup better against offensive teams due to much higher Speed.
