Mega Diancie resides in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. It is a huge threat with great 160/160 offenses to go along with 110 base Speed and strong STABs in Diamond Storm and Moonblast. It also has a great ability in Magic Bounce, which allows it to bounce back entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes and status moves like Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave. Its typing gives it the ability to switch into Dragon, Fire, and Flying attacks, giving it ample opportunities to do heavy damage to the opposing team. Its best sets are its offensive mixed set with great coverage, its Rock Polish set that gives it a boost in speed that allows it to sweep, and its Calm Mind set that boosts Mega Diancie's Special Attack to further levels and give it sweeping potential. The flaws to Mega Diancie are its lackluster speed prior to Mega evolving, forcing it to often run Protect in order to safely Mega evolve. While its typing grants it nice resistances, it also has many common weaknesses in Water, Ground, and Steel attacks, making it hard to switch in at times.
Mega Diancie is also a viable option in the Uber tier of competitive battling. Thanks to a great ability in Magic Bounce, Mega Diancie has the incredible utility of acting as an anti-lead to suicide leads like Deoxys-A and Deoxys-S. Its potent 160 base offenses and good 110 Speed allow it to check threats like Darkrai, Ho-oh, Yveltal, and Latias. Mega Diancie is no one-trick pony, capable of running a more utility based set with Heal Bell while supporting teams with an immunity to status and ability to bounce back hazards. Diancie's biggest flaws lie in its critical weaknesses to Ground and Steel attacks, the latter of which is troublesome when going up against Pokémon like Ferrothorn and Dialga. Mega Diancie also has a low 50 HP stat which is further hampered by its low 50 base Speed before Mega evolving, making it difficult to Mega evolve without Protect. It also lacks reliable recovery if one takes a more defensive route with Mega Diancie.
