Mega Mawile is in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling, returning from its Generation VI stint in the Uber tier. Thanks to Huge Power giving it gargantuan power and a wide offensive movepool, Mega Mawile is a wallbreaking powerhouse and a massive offensive threat in the tier. With a solid defensive typing in Steel/Fairy and Intimidate as its ability in base form, Mega Mawile can find ample opportunities to attack at the opposing teams or set up with Swords Dance, threatening bulkier teams with its powerful STABs or more offensively inclined Pokémon with strong priority in Sucker Punch. Its best set is the all-out attacking set with Play Rough for a powerful STAB, Sucker Punch to hit faster threats, Thunder Punch to prevent Toxapex from walling it, and the choice between Fire Fang to smash pesky resists like Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Amoonguss, or Focus Punch, which can hit an incoming switch-in like Heatran with an unexpected blow. It also can run a Swords Dance set that boosts its Attack stat to insane levels, giving it immense wallbreaking power. While Mega Mawile is a strong Pokémon, its low HP and Speed stats work heavily against it, as offensive pressure can make it difficult for it to be able to maintain its threatening presence. There are a lot of offensive Pokémon that are either resistant or immune to Sucker Punch, as the likes of Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele can hit Mega Mawile extremely hard with its attacks.
