Trading Card Game
Mega Scizor resides in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. It is a Pokémon capable of filling numerous roles, from set-up sweeper to pivot to defensive Defog user. It can revenge kill numerous threats with its Technician boosted Bullet Punch and gain momentum for a team with U-turn. Having great utility moves in Defog and Knock Off, Mega Scizor can also be an effective team supporter with great 70/140/100 defenses, acting as a great check to numerous threats, such as Bisharp, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, and Latios. Its best sets are its bulky Swords Dance set, its offensive Swords Dance set, and a specially defensive Defog set. It does have a glaring weakness to Fire attacks that can be relatively exploited, but Mega Scizor is among the best Mega evolutions in the tier and a top-tier Pokémon.
Mega Scizor is also a viable, albeit niche, option in the Uber tier of competitive battling. A lot of Mega Scizor's viability has gone down due to the omnipresent Primal Groudon, but it remains a Pokémon still worth using as a Xerneas check and Pursuit trapper that can take care of Latios, Latias, and Mega Gengar. With access to U-turn and Roost, Mega Scizor is able to distinguish itself from other Xerneas checks like Aegislash with reliable recovery and ability to gain momentum for a team. It also has an immunity to Toxic and numerous resistances that allow it to check those top tier threats. Its primary flaws are its huge weakness to Fire-type attacks that makes it hard for Mega Scizor to circumvent especially when Pokémon like Latios run Hidden Power Fire to heavily damage Mega Scizor. It also does not have a great STAB combination, as it is resisted by numerous threats like Primal Groudon and Ho-oh, both of which can easily take advantage.
