Mega Steelix, the Mega Evolution of Steelix activated by using Mega Stone, was discovered in the Japanese demos of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. It retains its Steel and Ground-typings.
Steelix can Mega Evolve into Mega Steelix if it is holding a Steelixite.
Steelix may be ginormous, but after undergoing Mega Evolution it becomes even larger and gains even more mass, making it even heavier than a Snorlax! It now has three pairs of teeth on its overbite and three sets of prongs on its chin. Its side sections and tail now have reflective, mirror-like properties, and it appears that it has some metallic skin encircling it, held into place by gravitational-like units that are on its sides.
Steelix doesn't have any visible differences to differentiate between male and female.

Mega Steelix is in the Borderline 2 (BL2) tier of competitive battling, meaning that it is banned from the Rarelyused (RU) tier but not used enough to be a part of the Underused (UU) tier. While Mega Aggron may have the same Defense stat and a better ability in Filter, Mega Steelix has better special bulk and a much better defensive typing before Mega Evolving. Its great defensive typing allows it to hold up well against VoltTurn teams that like to pivot in and out with Volt Switch and U-turn, and its strong STAB Earthquake can allow for it to wear down at Pokémon like Doublade much faster than Mega Aggron can. It can act as a valuable team supporter thanks to access to moves like Stealth Rock and Roar, and its strong STAB attacks in Earthquake and Heavy Slam guarantee that it is no sitting duck. However, Mega Steelix does suffer in the regard that it lacks reliable recovery and can be overshadowed by Mega Aggron, which does boast several defensive advantages over it and has access to Thunder Wave.
