Mega Tyranitar has yet to appear in a Spin-Off game as of writing.
Trading Card Game
Mega Tyranitar resides in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. With a high 164 base Attack, sturdy 100/150/120 defenses with the Special Defense being bolstered by Sand Stream, and a small but notable increase in Speed, Mega Tyranitar is commonly seen as a Dragon Dance sweeper. It can outspeed threats at +1 that regular Tyranitar cannot, such as Weavile and Tornadus-T while having decent surprise factor against Pokémon expecting regular Tyranitar that are torn apart by Mega Tyranitar's coverage options like Landorus-T and Gliscor. The brutal power that Mega Tyranitar can get out of an Attack boost allows it to tear apart defensive cores with moves like Stone Edge, Crunch, Ice Punch, and Superpower. The flaws in Mega Tyranitar are that it has 4 moveslot syndrome, not being able to run all the coverage it can to wreck all defensive cores, and takes up a Mega slot, which is notable considering the many other valuable Mega Pokémon in the tier.
Mega Tyranitar is also a viable option in the Uber tier of competitive battling, where it can pull off a Dragon Dance sweeper set. It can outspeed Mewtwo and Shaymin-S after a Dragon Dance boost and hit the majority of the tier hard with a boosted Stone Edge, Earthquake, or Crunch. This gives Mega Tyranitar decent sweeping potential while resisting many forms of priority outside of Mega Scizor's and Mega Lucario's Bullet Punch. Mega Tyranitar can also pull off a defensive set to a certain degree, with the ability to invest in physical defense to handle threats such as Mega Salamence while still maintaining good special bulk to be able to Pursuit trap Latios and Latias. The biggest flaws in Mega Tyranitar are that it takes up a Mega slot and is not as useful defensively when taking care of threats like Latios and Darkrai in comparison to base form Tyranitar.
