Mega Venusaur uses the Thick Fat Ability, which reduces the damage that it takes from Fire-Type and Ice-Type moves by 50%, which is great because Mega Venusaur is vulnerable to both attack types.
Mega Venusaur can be obtained by using the Mega Stone while Venusaur is holding a Venusaurite in battle.
Mega Venusaur has yet to appear in a Spin-Off game as of writing.
Trading Card Game
Mega Venusaur is listed as a Rare Holo EX Card in the XY Set.
Mega Venusaur resides in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. Mega Venusaur has great defensive and offensive prowess that makes it a staple on many teams due to its immense utility. With its typing, great 80/123/120 bulk, and Thick Fat to patch up Fire and Ice weaknesses, Mega Venusaur is a great check to a great number of threats such as Keldeo, Clefable, Azumarill, and Mega Altaria. With its balanced stats all throughout, Mega Venusaur can choose to go an offensive or defensive route, giving it a degree of versatility. With an offensive set, Mega Venusaur acts as a tank that can sponge hits relatively well while dishing out strong damage to prevent itself from being set-up bait. A defensive set offers a hard check to certain threats while acting as a great mixed wall capable of handling physical and special attacking threats. Mega Venusaur does suffer from having some common weaknesses to Flying and Psychic attacks, while its coverage can be walled by quite a number of threats, but it is otherwise a solid Pokémon that finds itself on balanced and stall teams.
