Meowth (ニャース) is the 52nd Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Normal-Type, and is known as the Scratch Cat Pokémon.

Meowth can use one of two Abilities: Pickup, which gives it a 10% chance of picking up an item after battle and holding onto it, provided it isn't already holding an item; or Technician, which gives a 50% power increase to moves with a base power less than or equal to 60. Its Hidden Ability is Unnerve, which prevents opposing Pokémon from consuming their held Berry whilst in battle.

Meowth gain the opportunity to evolve into a Persian starting at Level 28.

Meowth is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Meowth One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Game Information

Original Games

Meowth can be found at Routes 5-8 in Pokémon Blue. In Silver and Crystal Meowth can be found at Routes 5-8, 38 & 39; in Crystal Meowth can also appear at Route 11. The only way to obtain a Meowth in Red, Yellow and Gold is to trade for one.

A Meowth can be obtained in Pokémon Emerald at the Battle Frontier by trading with a Trainer that is requesting a Skitty in exchange. In Fire Red and Leaf Green, in addition to reprising its original appearances at Routes 5-8, Meowth can also be found at Bond Bridge, Treasure Beach, Kindle Road, Cape Brink, Five Isle Meadow, Canyon Entrance, Seavault Canyon, Ruin Valley and Water Path.

Meowth can be found at the Trophy Garden as one of the Daily Pokémon in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. In Soul Silver, Meowth can be found at Routes 5-8, 38, and 39. The only way to obtain one in Heart Gold is to trade for one or utilize Pal Park.

Meowth can be traded for with Yancy at Nimbasa City in Black 2 and White 2, but this only applies to Male trainers. Female trainers would have these trades go through Curtis and the first trade in that sequence would be for a Mankey--in this case trading or Dream World would be required to obtain one.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the only way to obtain Meowth is to breed a Persian.

Spin-Off Games

Meowth is a Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, obtainable by Snagging it from Cipher Peon Fostin at the Phenac Training School.

Meowth makes appearances at Secret Storage 9 & 18, Endless Level 22 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Meowth is a Starter Pokémon in the first set of Mystery Dungeon games, and can also be found at Western Cave 3F-6F. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Meowth can be found at The Nightmare B1-B17, Marine Resort B1-B19 and Happy Outlook B1-B19. All three areas can have Meowth appear at random, and Happy Outlook is known as Joy Cape in Explorers of Sky. Meowth is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Light Summit 1F-10F and Final Cave 3F-6F.

Meowth can be found at Fall City in Pokémon Ranger. This is the only game in the Pokémon Ranger series that Meowth has appeared in as of writing.

Meowth can be found at the Meeting Place, Cavern Zone or Haunted Zone in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure. Complete a quiz at either of those three locations to obtain it. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Meowth can be befriended at multiple locations by purchasing an item. Those locations include Cove Town and Sea Song Beach in the Cove Area; Windmill Way and Verdant Court in the Arbor Area; Arcane Area's Lakeshore; Rockridge Fort and the Colosseum in the Crag Area; and the Train Depot and Unawarehouse in the Tech Area.

Meowth can be found at Aurora and Terrera in Pokémon Conquest.

Trading Card Game

Meowth is listed in 16 different sets, along with the Wizards Promos (2), a Nintendo Promo, Pokémon Organized Play Series 5 as a Common Card, the 2009 Movie Premiere Pack and the Black/White Promo (3) sets. Meowth is listed as a Common Card in the Jungle, Team Rocket, Gym Challenge, Expedition, Skyridge, EX Team Magma VS Team Aqua, EX FireRed and LeafGreen, EX Delta Species, EX Holon Phantoms (Delta Species), Legends Awakened, Supreme Victors, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Next Destines and Boundaries Crossed sets. It is listed as an Uncommon Card in the Gym Challenge and EX Team Rocket Returns sets; and as a Hidden Rare card in the Noble Victories set.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

The vast majority of Meowth's appearances has been as a member of Team Rocket since the second episode in the series Pokémon Emergency! This Meowth is able to walk and speak like a human. The only other notable trainer to use a Meowth was Tyson, who used one in the Hoenn League.

In episode Once More With Reeling, Meowth, together with Jessie and James, uses a net cannon and captures Pikachu and other Pokémon during Pokémon Contest break. But when Blaziken jumped, Meowth, by James's command, fired a net to capture Blaziken but, instead of capturing, Blaziken just cut down the net and used Blaze Kick. Meowth was exceptionally panicky (his first word that he said after Blaziken cut down the net was "Yikes").

Movies

Team Rocket's Meowth has appeared in all Pokémon films and Pikachu shorts released to date. This Meowth would get cloned by Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back, and made a subsequent appearance in Mewtwo Returns, but the clone did not retain Meowth's speech capabilities.

Manga

Red would set a Meowth free from Professor Oak's lab by accident in Chapter 2, but was successful in recapturing the Scratch Cat Pokémon.

A trainer named Sham would own a Meowth prior to its evolution into one of her Persians, making a flashback appearance in Chapter 268 and a subsequent photo appearance in Chapter 297.

A group of Meowth under the command of Team Galactic would be on guard in Chapter 403.
