Metang (メタング) is the 191st Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Steel/Psychic Type, and it is known as the Iron Claw Pokémon.

Metang has the Clear Body Ability. This Ability makes it immune to having its Statistics lowered from an opponent's attack, but can still reduce its own Statistics as a result of moves that it uses. Its Hidden Ability is Light Metal, which cuts its weight in half, which affects the amount of damage it takes from moves that involve a Pokémon's weight.

Beldum can evolve into a Metang at Level 20, and can evolve a second time at Level 45 into Metagross. Starting in the Generation VI games Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a Metagross can Mega Evolve into Mega Metagross by using a Mega Stone.

Metang is in the Mineral Egg Group, and its Egg takes 10,240 Steps to hatch. It takes a Metang 1,250,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Metang can be found at Giant Chasm in Black, White, Black 2 and White 2. Metang can also be found in a Hidden Grotto at Giant Chasm.

In Pokémon X and Y, Metang can be caught in the Friend Safari. The only way of obtaining it in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon is by evolving a Beldum.

Metang can be found at World Axle Factory B2 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Hunter J's underlings used a number of Metang in the episode Pillars of Friendship.

Movies

Another trainer used a Metang in the episode Zoroark: Master of Illusions, its lone appearance in the films as of writing.

Manga

Steven also uses a number of Metang to assist him in excavating rare stones, along with lending them to Hoenn's Elite Four for transportation purposes. These Metang appear in Chapters 196, 251, 252 and 254.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Metang finds itself in the PU Tier of Competitive Battling. Thanks to the boost that its defenses get with Eviolite, Metang becomes a viable wall against Normal and Flying-Type moves, along with taking neutral damage from Fighting-Type moves.

While Metang doesn't have the good offensive Statistics that Metagross has, it makes up for it with access to support moves in Stealth Rock and Toxic, which the opposing team won't like being on the receiving end of. Metang won't like being on the receiving end of Fire-Type or Ground-Type moves and/or Special Attacks due to its lower Special Defense.
