Mienshao is in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With high Attack and Speed stats, a good overall offensive movepool, and great abilities in Regenerator and Reckless, Mienshao is a strong threat in the tier. With Reckless, Mienshao can boast one of the strongest attacks in the tier with High Jump Kick. Regenerator is great as it recovers any damage Mienshao has taken, which can be great if it misses a High Jump Kick or takes Life Orb recoil. Its Choice Scarf set can be a very threatening revenge killer thanks to Reckless while acting as a great pivot with U-turn. Other sets include its Life Orb set that can be a strong wallbreaker and its Substitute + Baton Pass set that can take advantage of Mienshao's ability to force switches and pass on a Substitute to another threatening Pokémon. Mienshao's biggest flaws are its frailty which limits the amount of opportunities to switch in and its reliance on High Jump Kick, which can cause recoil if it misses and can set Mienshao back quite a bit, especially if it lacks Regenerator.
