Palkia (Sinnoh Pokédex. It is a Water/Dragon-Type, and is known as the Spacial Pokémon.) is the 150th Pokémon in the
Palkia uses the Pressure Ability, an Ability that doubles the amount of PP that opposing Pokémon consume for each move that they use while Palkia is in battle. A second Ability is available to Palkia from the Dream World, the Telepathy Ability. This Ability only works during Double and Triple Battles, but Telepathy allows it to avoid its teammates' attacks.
Palkia doesn't evolve and doesn't have a pre-evolved form.
Palkia's appearance is similar to Dialga's, but with two large wings. Despite this, Palkia still can't learn Fly. It has plates on its shoulder area, where two pink pearls lie on each side. Palkia has a powerful tail and a long neck.
Palkia is a Genderless Pokémon Species.
In Platinum, Palkia is summoned - along with Dialga - by Cyrus, in an attempt to create a new world. However by doing this, Cyrus accidentally brings Giratina into the real world, who sees that time and space have been disrupted, and attempts to stop Cyrus. After Giratina is calmed, Palkia is able to be caught at the Spear Pillar.
If Pokémon Pearl is inserted into the Nintendo 3DS whilst playing Pokémon Dream Radar, Palkia can be found at random.
After the main storyline inExplorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, after successfully clearing The Nightmare, the player meets Lapras on the beach and asks him about Spacial Rift. He says he doesn't know anything about it, so the player goes back to their camp. The next day, Palkia appears in the player's camp, and takes the player to Spacial Rift.
After fighting through the dungeon, the player confronts Palkia, as it challenges the player to a battle. Once defeated, Palkia becomes entombed in a nightmare, where it is discovered that the distortion in space is in fact the work of Darkrai (much to Palkia's confusion).
Other Spin-Off Games
Palkia appears as a Boss Pokémon in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, but the mission can only be downloaded on the Ranger Net extra mission "Palkia in Haruba Desert!?" In this mission, the presence of Palkia in the current timespace has caused a major calamity, as people and Pokémon alike are moving to other places (some Pokémon appear outside their normal environment in this mission), buildings getting warped, doors leading to completely different destinations, etc. Long story short, things need to be set right. In the Palkia boss fight, it will use Spacial Rend to alter the terrain of the battlefield.
Palkia also appears in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, also in a Ranger Net extra mission, which is titled "Pledge to Arceus." While it isn't a Boss Pokémon per se, it serves as one of three Mini-Bosses in this mission, and is battled in the room on the right.
Palkia can be found at any of the games' lakes in Pokémon Rumble Blast after completing the game.
Palkia makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Spear Pillar stage. While it appears in the background, it does a number of things to disrupt the local environment. Laser beams may fire through different parts of the stage, which will cause a healthy amount of damage. Parts of the floor on the upper level sometimes break away. Lastly, it will use Spacial Rend to rotate the battlefield, sometimes turning it upside-down, or reversing the battlefield. When the battlefield is inverted or reversed, the directional controls get reversed.
Trading Card Game
Palkia is in the 2009 Movie Premiere Pack, and the Diamond/Pearl & Diamond/Pearl/Platinum promos. Palkia is listed as a Rare Card in the Diamond and Pearl, Great Encounters, Majestic Dawn, Platinum (2) and Call of Legends (2) sets. Palkia is listed as an Ultra Rare Lv. X Card in the Platinum set, and is part of the Palkia & Dialga Legend Card that is a part of the Triumphant set.
While Palkia has made a few cameo appearances, it had a major role in The Battle Finale of Legend!, as it--along with Dialga--were under the control of Cyrus as a result of the Red Chain. However, Team Galactic would be defeated and the calamity stopped.
Palkia makes major appearances in 2 Pokémon movies; The Rise of Darkrai and Arceus and the Jewel of Life. Palkia's battle with Dialga in The Rise of Darkrai would get mentioned in Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
In the main Manga, Palkia would fall under the control of Cyrus as a result of the Red Chain, but would be freed as a result of the destruction of the Red Chain by Dia, Pearl and Lady Platinum Berlitz. That wouldn't stop his plans permanently, as he would head to the Shinto Ruins to try and revive both Dialga and Palkia, only to be thwarted again, this time by Gold, Silver and Crystal.
Palkia appears in the Arceus and the Jewel of Life manga adaptation along with the members of its trio. Palkia engaged in a battle with the other members of its trio along with Arceus.
Palkia resides in the Uber tier of competitive battling, where it was one of the Pokémon that suffered the most from ORAS shifts that occurred in the tier. With the introduction of Primal Groudon and Soul Dew for Latios and Latias, Palkia lost a significant niche in being a one of few great Kyogre checks while being easily walled by Primal Groudon. Palkia also struggles against offensive teams due to its lack of great opportunities to come in on Pokémon other than Primal Kyogre. However, Palkia is not completely outclassed, as it is not as vulnerable to Pursuit as Latios or Latias and has a good matchup against defensive teams due to an expansive movepool that can prove lethal when backed up with a Life Orb. Moves like Hydro Pump, Spacial Rend, and Thunder give Palkia well-rounded coverage, while pulling out a surprise Focus Punch on a predicted Blissey switch-in can eliminate a Pokémon that gives many special attackers fits.
Palkia doesn't learn any moves by way of Breeding.
