Pokémon Black (ポケットモンスター ブラック Pocket Monsters Black) is one of the two Generation V games, with it's counterpart being Pokémon White. Like the previous generation of games, Pokemon Black will be released on the Nintendo DS.
This game will be based in the Unova Region, and will follow certain trends presented in the previous games. The Unova Region is far more industrialized than the other regions and as such, is more vastly populated. It will feature two main player characters, one male and one female, and will travel across the region on a Pokémon Journey. This region is full of Pokémon, some that are exclusive to Black and White. As well as the player receiving one of the three starter Pokémon; Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott.
Pokémon Black was released in Japan on Spetember 18, 2010, and was released in March 16, 2011 for North America. The UK release date is March 4, 2011. The 3D in this game is significantly higher than the other Pokémon games features on the Nintendo DS. It is mainly shown through the movement through the over world. Aesthetic changes have also been made to this game that were lacking in previous games, including an altered, and more 3D, battle system provided with full back sprite as well as them being animated when stationary. In select areas, such as Pokécenters and Pokémarts, when talking to people speech bubbles appear over their heads.
Obtaining the Pokémon from previous generation games is different in Pokemon Black. The player is given a crossbow loaded with Pokéballs, and they need to fire them at Pokémon that jump out of the grassy areas. In total, there are 649 Pokemon (with forms and everything there sure are a lot more!). It also has the capability to connect to the Internet and even upload their saved data and have fun online. The game introduce a variety of new multiplayer aspects including the Live Caster, a Dsi & 3DS exclusive features that allow for video chat with you and your friends.
Like all the previous games, you need to earn all 8 gym badges. Pokemon Black is to be compatible with the previous generations such as, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, and Soulsilver, through the aspects of the game known as the Pokeshifter. Through this, some event pokemon can be traded over to these games to unlock new such as the Monster Fox Pokemon, Zoroark and it's pre-evolutionary counter-part, Zorua.
These games mark the first time that Europe has gotten a non-Spin-Off Pokemon game before North America.
