Pokémon Origins, ポケットモンスター THE ORIGIN, was a four-episode special of the Pokémon anime. However, this anime is not apart of the official Pokémon anime and follows the story of Red as he completes the Pokédex and becomes champion of the Pokémon League. Pokémon Origins initially debuted in Japan on October 4th, 2013, and is set to debut internationally on November 15th, 2013. The Pokémon Origin anime series follows the storyline of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Green versions much more closely than the traditional anime. In this anime series, the main characters are Red, Green, Professor Oak, Professor Fuji, Reina, Giovanni, and Brock. Red and Green are rivals who both are attempting to complete the Pokédex as well as become the most powerful trainer. Professor Oak is the grandfather of Green much like in the games, and he gives both Red and Green their starter Pokémon, Charmander and Squirtle respectively. Professor Fuji and his granddaughter Reina live in the Pokémon House in Lavendar Town, and they take care of Pokémon. It is later revealed that Professor Fuji previously had studied both Mew and Mewtwo. Professor Fuji also gives Red a Mega Stone from the Kalos region, the Charizardite X. In the anime, Brock is a gym leader who teaches Red the basics of Pokémon battling and strategy. He also awards Red with his first gym badge after his defeat in the Pewter Gym. Finally, the antagonist of the series, Giovanni, is the leader of Team Rocket and causes trouble for Red throughout the journey. At the end of the series, he disbands Team Rocket and presents Red with the Earth Badge.

[edit] Plot

Red and Green
The first episode begins with Red watching the battle of Nidorino and Gengar on TV. He is quickly interrupted by his mom who tells him that Professor Oak is looking for him. Red quickly leaves home and hurries to Professor Oak's laboratory. On his way to the lab, he is stopped by Green, his rival, who was called to the lab for the same reason as Red. They fight on their way there, and when they eventually arrive, Professor Oak hands both of them Pokédexes and requests that they complete his dream of completing the Pokédex for him. They both accept the Pokédexes and choose to fulfill his request. They are both then given the choice of a starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirle.
Red chooses Charmander.
Green allows Red to choose first to prove his "maturity". Red makes a speech about his father and the meaning of his name, and he chooses Charmander to reflect upon it. Professor Oak asks Green if he will be choosing Bulbasaur because of his name, but this time, it is not the case. Green decides to go with Squirtle because he knows that it has an advantage over Red's Charmander. Both decline Oak's offer to give a nickname to their Pokémon. Green quickly leaves the lab to start filling his Pokédex, and Red soon follows.

At the beginning of his journey, trainer Red makes a few newbie mistakes. For example, he tries to capture Pokémon with full health, is clueless of Type advantages and disadvantages, and tries to catch other trainers' Pokémon.
Red vs Green
After doing so, he is confronted by a youngster who tells him to not try to catch trainer Pokémon and the location where he can catch a Nidoran. Eventually, Red captures all the Pokémon in the nearby area and meets up with Green near Viridian City. At this point, the two have a battle: Red's Charmander vs Green's Squirtle. Green and his Squirtle have bonded a lot and have become very strong while Red and Charmander's bond isn't as strong. From a distance, Gym Leader Brock watches as Green manages to defeat Red due to his own strength as well as the mistakes of Red.
Red meets Brock.
After Green leaves, Brock approaches Red and tells him why he had lost. Red begins to understand, and Brock tells him that if he needs any help, he should ask for the assistance of a Gym Leader. Brock then leaves, and Red goes to the Pokémon Center to heal his Pokémon and to speak to Professor Oak using the video phone. Oak is surprised that Red had already caught so many Pokémon and told him to keep it up.

Red vs Brock
On his way to Pewter City, Red captures even more Pokémon. When he finally arrives in Pewter City, he looks for the gym for both a gym battle and to learn about Type match-ups. The gym trainers laugh at him, but Brock, the Gym Leader, helps Red out. He tells him about Type advantages and disadvantages and then asks how many badges Red had obtained. Red admits that he only has zero, so Brock only chooses two Pokémon to battle with. His first Pokémon is his Geodude. Red uses his Charmander and manages to deal a small amount of damage to the defending Pokémon. However, Geodude has the advantage and greatly weakens Red's Charmander. Red recalls his Pokémon and sends out his Nidoran. Nidoran uses Double Kick and easily defeats Brock's Geodude. Brock then brings out his strongest Pokémon, Onix. Onix begins using Bide, and Red's Nidoran gets a lot of damage dealt to Onix by using Double Kick.
Charmander defeats Onix.
Eventually, Onix finishes charging his Bide and knocks out Nidoran in one hit. Red starts bringing random Pokémon out, and all of them are defeated in one hit by Onix. Red calls upon his Metapod and has it use String Shot to lower Onix's speed. Metapod is then knocked out, and Red must resort to his final Pokémon, Charmander. The HP Board is then showed, and it is showed that both Pokémon only require one more attack to be knocked out, and both Charmander and Onix have the same speed. Brock and Red both declare attacks, and due to the String Shot lowering Onix's speed, Charmander is faster and deals the finishing blow. Brock is impressed with Red and awards him with the Boulder Badge.
