Pokéwalker

(Redirected from Pokewalk)

Pokéwalker

The Pokéwalker is a small step-counter that was included with the purchase of Pokémon Heart Gold and Pokémon Soul Silver. It allows you to transfer 1 Pokémon from the aforementioned games to the Pokéwalker via infrared connectivity. During what is called a "Stroll," a player can raise their Pokémon's level by 1 (after taking 500 steps) and increase their friendship. A Pokémon's level will never increase by more than 1 level per stroll, no matter how many steps are taken.

As you walk around you gather Watts (the currency required by the device to participate in battles and find items). After collecting a set number of Watts, the player is able to spend them accordingly; 3 Watts for a shot at an item, 10 Watts to battle a Pokémon. You gain 1 Watt for every 20 steps you've taken, rounding down. Additionally, your Pokémon may find Watts randomly. You will be notified by a small speech bubble next to your Pokémon. The picture inside the speech bubble is related to how many Watts your Pokémon has found.

Two useful features that the Pokéwalker offers: The Dowsing Machine (just "Dowsing" on the Pokéwalker) and the Poké Radar.

The Dowsing Machine gives you the chance to find items, which differ between routes. The items you can find depend on how many steps you have taken that day. Six patches of grass will appear on screen. You can use the buttons on the Pokéwalker to select a patch of grass. If there is an item, it is added to your inventory. If not, it will tell you if it is close by or far away and you have one more chance to find it. You can carry up to three items found this way.

The Poké Radar function offers a chance to battle and capture a random wild Pokémon, including Sinnoh and Hoenn exclusives. There are three groups of Pokémon available, each including two Pokémon for a total of six per route. One Pokémon from each group is available on each stroll. If you do not like the Pokémon available, you can return your Pokémon to the game and start a new stroll. The Pokémon you send to the Pokéwalker will affect which Pokémon are available.

Each Pokémon and item also has an appearance rate, which can be one of four things: Often, Average, Rare or Almost Never.

Each Route has 3 useful Pokémon types. If a Pokémon of one or two of these types is sent to the Pokéwalker, the steps needed for wild Pokémon and items to appear decreases slightly. This does not have an effect on the appearance rate. Likewise, there is no such thing as type advantage/distadvantage in Poké Radar battles.

The Pokéwalker can connect to another Pokéwalker via infrared. When connected, the two Pokémon will play together and both players will obtain an item. These do not count towards the 3-item limit imposed on Dowsing Machine items.

The Pokéwalker can hold a maximum of 3 captured Pokémon and 10 items before you'll need to transfer your rewards to a Heart Gold/Soul Silver game card.
