Poliwhirl (ニョロゾ}) is the 61st Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Water-Type, and is known as the Tadpole Pokémon.

Poliwhirl can use one of two Abilities: Water Absorb, which restores up to a quarter of its Maximum HP if another Pokémon tries to hit it with a Water-Type move; or Damp, which stops Selfdestruct and Explosion from working while it remains in battle. A third Ability is available to Poliwhirl from the Dream World, the Swift Swim Ability. This Ability doubles its Speed during periods of heavy rain.

Poliwag can evolve into Poliwhirl at Level 25. From here, it can evolve into a Poliwrath by using a Water Stone, or from Generation II onward, into a Politoed if Poliwhirl is traded to another game whilst holding a King's Rock.

Poliwhirl is in the Water 1 Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Poliwhirl 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Biology

Physiology

Poliwhirl hasn't made any extreme changes after evolving. Though it has developed two arms, which has glove like hands, it has also lost its' tail as well and the fact that its eyes are now at the top of it's head. A minor change would be that it's swirl is now going the opposite direction, and is a lot better at swimming and walking than prior to evolving from Poliwag.

Gender Differences

Poliwhirl doesn't have any distinguishable differences to differentiate between male and female.

Anime

Misty's Poliwag would evolve into a Poliwhirl in The Totodile Duel during a 1-on-1 battle against Ash's Bulbasaur. Despite evolving, Poliwhirl would be defeated. Since then, Poliwhirl would make a number of appearances until it evolved into a Politoed in Outrageous Fortunes.

Wild Poliwhirl make appearances in "Pikachu's Vacation," "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure" and "Pikachu's Summer Festival".

Manga

Red would get a Poliwhirl in his younger days prior to becoming a trainer, as he was trying to save him from drowning. Nicknamed "Poli" by his Trainer, he would have to dive into Vermillion Bay to save Red from drowning, this time because Lt. Surge threw him off the S.S. Anne. During the second rescue attempt he would evolve into a Poliwrath. Poli makes appearances as a Poliwhirl in Chapters 1-5 and 8-11.

Gold would also obtain a Poliwhirl, this time when "Politaro," the nickname he gave to his Poliwag, evolved into a Poliwhirl at Tin Tower during Chapter 109.
