Porygon (ポリゴン) is the 137th Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Normal Type, and it is known as the Virtual Pokémon.

Porygon can have one of two Abilities: Trace, which copies the Ability of its opponent, making that Ability its own until Porygon is switched from battle; or Download, which will increase either its Attack or Special Attack Statistic depending on the lower of the two defensive stats of its opponent. Its Hidden Ability is Analytic, which increases its Attack power by 30% should it be the last Pokémon to attack on a particular turn.

Porygon can evolve into Porygon2 when it is traded while holding an Upgrade, and again into Porygon-Z when it is traded while holding a Dubious Disc.

Porygon is in the Mineral Egg Group, and will hatch after 5,120 steps. It will take a Porygon One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Gender Differences

Porygon is genderless, and therefore does not have any gender-specific features.

Game Information

Original Games

Porygon is only available from the Game Corner in both Generation I and Generation II, but one will need a lot of Coins to get one. This also holds true in Fire Red, Leaf Green, Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

Diamond and Pearl introduce an alternative method to getting Porygon, as it appears in the Trophy Garden as one of the Daily Pokémon. A Porygon can also be obtained in Platinum by going to the house up and right of the Pokémon Center in Veilstone City.

In Pokémon White, Porygon can be found at the White Forest. PokéTransfer, Dream World or trading for one is required to obtain a Porygon in Black, Black 2 and White 2.

Porygon can be caught in the wild at the Mirage Island east of Shoal Cave and the south-easternmost Mirage Mountain in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, a gift Porygon can be obtained at the Aether House.

Spin-off Games

Porygon can be found at Secret Storage 1, Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Porygon can be found at Buried Relic 5F-10F in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Porygon appears-but cannot be recruited-at Temporal Tower 1F-13F. Porygon can be recruited at the Sky Rift DPB3-B9, or at Sky Fissure on the same floors (the dungeon name depends on the game). Porygon is exclusive to Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Chocolate Mountain 1F-10F.

Porygon appears at the Night Duty Factory in Pokémon Ranger, but it is invisible.

Porygon can be found at Sunny Seashore Factory 4-3 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Trading Card Game

Porygon appears in 10 different sets and two Promo sets. The Gym Challenge, Neo Destiny, Aquapolis, EX Unseen Forces, EX Delta Species, Great Encounters, and Triumphant sets have Porygon listed as a Common Card, while the Base, Team Rocket & EX FireRed and Leaf Green have Porygon listed as an Uncommon card. Porygon also appears in the Wizards Promo set and the HGSS Promo set.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

Porygon's first appearance was in the episode Electric Soldier Porygon, which did not air outside of Japan. This episode would be an infamous moment in the history of the series, which sent 800 kids to the hospital in Japan due to the constant flashing sequences in the episode. The incident nearly cancelled the series and Nintendo would have been to blame if that had happened.

A Wild Porygon made a cameo appearance in the episode A Chansey Operation.

Movies

Porygon made an appearance in Heroes: Latios & Latias.

Manga

Porygon's Manga information is unknown as of writing.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Porygon is in the NFE tier as a result of being a first stage Pokémon.

Trivia

  • Its signature moves, Conversion and Conversion 2, allow it to temporarily become any of the other 17 elemental types. Because of this, it is one of seven Pokemon (the others being Arceus, Kecleon, Greninja, Silvally and the rest of the Porygon evolutionary line) capable of becoming a pure Flying type; the only default pure Flying type is Tornadus.
  • Porygon is the only Pokémon that evolves twice by being traded while holding a certain item.
