Porygon-Z is a part of the Borderline (BL) tier of competitive battling, meaning that it is banned from the Underused (UU) tier but not used enough to be a part of the Overused (OU) tier. It has access to Z-Conversion, which allows for it to boost all of its stats by one stage. With Adaptability and a high Special Attack stat, Porygon-Z can be an absolute menace to face as a late-game sweeper. The additional bulk that it gains from Z-Conversion makes it more difficult for it to be taken out. Thanks to Z-Conversion, Porygon-Z can change its typing into its first move's type, and it is best used with Shadow Ball to turn into a Ghost-type, which allows for it to have a STAB attack with good neutral coverage while having an immunity to priority attacks like Extreme Speed and Fake Out. Porygon-Z will also want to run Discharge to break through the likes of Greninja and Celesteela, and Recover to be able to handle defensive Pokémon one-on-one. However, a Ghost typing gives it a weakness to Sucker Punch, and even after a boost, certain Choice Scarf users can outspeed Porygon-Z. Z-Conversion can be only used once, so Porygon-Z needs to be wary of phazing and has to have its checks weakened enough for it to sweep. Porygon-Z is most well suited for hyper offense and can have a difficult time fitting in on other team archetypes due to the role it plays.
Porygon2 is Genderless and does not have any Egg Moves as a result.
Pre-Evolution Exclusive Moves
Transfer Only Z-Moves
Via Move Tutor (Black 2/White 2)
Generation III Exclusive Move Tutor Moves
- NOTE: The only way for Porygon-Z to learn any of the moves in these two subsections is for either of its previous forms to learn them in the Third Generation, then being transferred to the next Generation where it can evolve.
Generation IV Exclusive Moves
Via Move Tutor (Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver)
- Porygon-Z's signature moves, Conversion and Conversion 2, allow it to temporarily become any of the 17 elemental types. Because of this, it is one of seven Pokémon (the others being Arceus, Kecleon, Greninja, Silvally and the rest of the Porygon evolutionary line) capable of becoming a pure Flying type. The eighth and only pure-flying type by default is Tornadus.
