Professor Samuel Oak is a Pokémon Professor who lives in his home in Pallet Town. He is the Professor of the Kanto region. Oak is a truly dedicated professor who specializes in Pokémon and human relationships as a profession. Prof. Oak created the well known device the Pokédex which he gives out to all trainers starting on their Pokémon quest. He comes by in the video games to give the player a Pokedex or upgrade it to National Mode. He let's trainers choose between one of the three Starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Though in Yellow, he gives out a Pikachu. Prof. Oak is also the grandfather of Gary Oak in the anime.

Prof. Oak was first introduced in "Pokémon! I Choose You!."
