Scyther can use one of two Abilities; Swarm, which increases the power of its Bug-Type moves by 50% when its HP drops below one-third of its maximum, or Technician, which powers up its moves that are base 60 power or less by 50%. Its Hidden Ability is Steadfast, which increases its Speed stat by one stage each time it flinches.
Scyther is in the Bug Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 6,400 steps to hatch. It takes Scyther 1,000,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Scyther is around an average human height. It is respectively based off a Praying Mantis, while its head could be based off some sort of reptile. Its body color is entirely green with only some white-ish-cream colored parts around its neck and chest, and some on each leg. Scyther has razor-sharp blades placed where arms would be. These blades are very strong as well as sharp, and can cut through logs in one go. It has a pair of wings that is somewhat cream colored. Scyther has small sharp teeth that are visible to the eye. It has two large feet with three claws on each foot.
The female Scyther has a slightly larger abdomen than the male.
In Pokémon Red and Yellow, Scyther can be caught in the Safari Zone. This remains the same in Pokémon FireRed. In Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, it appears in National Park during the Bug Catching Contest, carrying over to the remakes [[Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Trading Card Game
Scyther is a part of the Neverused (NU) tier of competitive battling. With high Attack and Speed stats, Scyther is a potent offensive threat that can perform a variety of roles. Its bulk is solid with an Eviolite, allowing for it to switch into numerous common Pokémon, such as Musharna, Shiftry, Malamar, and Hariyama. Scyther is also among the tier's best momentum grabbers thanks to its STAB U-turn and high Speed stat. It has a nice ability in Technician which gives it a decently powerful STAB in Aerial Ace while having a boosted priority Quick Attack to pick off faster weakened threats. Its best set is a bulky Swords Dance set that uses Scyther's good bulk to take advantage of weaker threats that cannot threaten it immediately while serving as an excellent pivot and potential sweeper. Scyther can also run a Choice Band set that gives it a powerful U-turn to work with and acts as a nice wallbreaker. Lastly, Scyther is a very good revenge killer with a Choice Scarf, being able to outspeed weather sweepers like Swift Swim Ludicolo and Chlorophyll Victreebel while having an extremely quick U-turn. However, Scyther's biggest downfall is its glaring weakness to Rock, which gives it a x4 weakness to Stealth Rock and makes it difficult to handle certain threats that would run Rock coverage for it, such as Lilligant, Primeape, and Hariyama. Its typing also gives it weaknesses to the common Ice and Fire attacks. If Scyther loses its Eviolite, it can even struggle to check some of the threats it would easily be able to with it.
Scyther is also viable in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. With STAB U-turn coming off a nice base 110 Attack stat and equipped with a Choice Band, Scyther is a great pivot that can provide nice switch in opportunities for the team. Scyther is a nice check to Fighting and Grass-types due to its typing and STAB attacks, and it can scare Malamar easily with the threat of U-turn, making sure that it does not cause trouble. Scyther is in a nice Speed tier, being able to outspeed a good chunk of threats in the tier and pivot out. However, its x4 weakness to Stealth Rock can severely limit its switch in opportunities without entry hazard removal support or teammates that are capable of threatening common Stealth Rock setters. Scyther also has some glaring weaknesses to Ice, Rock, Electric, and Flying, which can hinder its defensive utility in some situations. Scyther is also rather average in terms of bulk, forcing it to have a slow Volt Switch or U-turn user to support its switch-in opportunities and hindering its defensive capabilities even further. It does not have great wallbreaking power like Medicham or Hitmonlee, which leads to it struggling against bulkier team archetypes.
