Shard

Shards, first appearing in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald Gameboy games and appearing in every game ever since, are mysterious pieces of rocks that have various uses depending on which game they're used in, ranging from getting evolutionary stones to teaching your Pokémon moves or trading them in for cash. Shards are available in various colors, each of which has different effects when used in the games, as described below.

In-Game Descriptions and Special Effects

  • Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald: A shard from an ancient item. Can be sold cheaply. Can be traded for a Fire Stone
  • FireRed/LeafGreen: A small red shard. It appears to be from some sort of a tool made long ago. Not Applicable
  • Diamond/Pearl: A small red shard. It appears to be from some sort of implement made long ago. Can be traded for a TM11 Sunny Day
  • Platinum: A small red shard. It appears to be from some sort of implement made long ago. Can be given to a Move Tutor to teach your Pokémon various moves.
  • HeartGold/SoulSilver: A small red shard. It appears to be from some sort of implement made long ago. Can be traded for various berries.
  • Black/White: A small red shard. It appears to be from some sort of implement made long ago. Not Applicable

(Not Applicable means there's no special effect for that item in that game. You should still be able to sell it for cash, however.)

• These items cannot be bought in shops in-game on any generations and game cartridges.

• These items can be traded between all games, provided the Pokémon being traded is holding a Shard as its item and both game cartridges can trade back and forth.

Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald:

  • Red Shards: Underwater, held by wild Corsola
  • Blue Shards: Underwater, held by wild Clamperl
  • Green Shards: Underwater, held by wild Relicanth
  • Yellow Shards: Underwater, held by wild Chinchou

FireRed and LeafGreen:

  • Red Shards: Not Obtainable, Trade from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
  • Blue Shards: Not Obtainable, Trade from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
  • Green Shards: Not Obtainable, Trade from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
  • Yellow Shards: Not Obtainable, Trade from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
