Shiftry (ダーテング) is the 24th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Grass/Dark Type, and is classified as the Wicked Pokémon.

Shiftry can have one of three abilities: Chlorophyll, which doubles its Speed when it is sunny, but not on the same turn in which the weather becomes sunny; or Early Bird, which cuts the number of turns afflicted with the Sleep condition in half, rounded down to the nearest full number. Shiftry from the Dream World have the Pickpocket ability, an Ability allows the Pokémon to steal the opponent's held item when the opponent uses an attack that requires physical contact against it.

Seedot evolves into Nuzleaf once it reaches Level 14. It can then evolve into a Shiftry when a Leaf Stone is used on it.

Shiftry is in the Egg Groups Field and Grass, and its Egg takes approximately 3,840 Steps to hatch. It takes Shiftry 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Shiftry takes the appearance of a bipedal forest monster. Its arms have leaves in the place of hands, has a long nose, and light-colored hair that grows longer than its body.

The leaves that grow at the end of a Male Shiftry's arms are slightly longer than the leaves that grow at the end of the Female's arms.

The only game in which Shifty can be found in the wild is Black 2 and White 2; in these games Shiftry can be found at the Nature Preserve. In all other games prior to the Generation 5 Sequels, Shiftry does not appear in the wild; the only way to obtain one is by evolving a Nuzleaf.

Shiftry can be obtained by purifying and evolving Seedot into Nuzleaf, then into a Shiftry in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

Shiftry appears at Endless Level 7, Forever Level 56 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Shiftry appears at the Western Cave 12F-20F and Buried Relic 68F-74F in the first Mystery Dungeon game. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Shiftry appears at Lost Wilderness B1-B17. Shiftry is exclusive to Stormy Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Weird Rockland 1F-12F.

Shiftry appears at the Cycla Mountain Range in Pokémon Ranger. Shiftry appears in the Vien Forest in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Shiftry does not appear in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs.

Shiftry can be found at Firebreathing Mountain Autumnwood 3-3 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Shiftry made its first appearance in the episode Jump For Joy! in which it took Nurse Joy to its home-a large tree in the woods-to help cure a Nuzleaf that had fallen ill.

A trainer named Tyson utilized a Shiftry during his run in the Hoenn League. It was defeated by Ash's Torkoal.

Most recently, another trainer utilized a Shiftry in the episode To Thine Own Pokémon Be True!, the Pokémon PingPong Competition episode.

[edit] Competitive Battling

Shiftry is a Five-Tier Pokémon, as it can appear in any tier ranging from Never-Utilized to Uber. While its Statistics are mediocre outside of its Attack and Special Attack, it has plenty of methods of boosting those Statistics, making it a very dangerous threat offensively, especially with a deep offensive movepool. Plus, if paired up with a Pokémon that has the Drought Ability, it's Speed will double if it's using the Chlorophyll Ability.

While Shiftry needs to turn to its teammates for assistance in order to sweep the opposing team, when played correctly it can look real good. Shiftry shines brightest in the sun; taking away this Weather Condition makes it easier to defeat.

Regardless the weather, attacks with priority will cut through Shiftry's low Defenses like a hot knife through butter.

Sapphire Shiftry's large fans generate awesome gusts of wind at a speed close to 100 feet per second. The whipped-upwind blows anything away. This Pokémon chooses to live quietly deep in forests.
