When a Pokémon with the Sniper Ability lands a Critical Hit, instead of dealing twice as much damage to the opponent, the move that landed the Critical Hit receives triple the normal damage.
Starting in Generation VI, the amount of damage that a Critical Hit does is reduced to 50%. As a result, a Pokémon with Sniper that lands a Critical Hit will do twice the normal damage instead of 1.5 times the normal damage.
Sniper doesn't have an effect in the overworld.
