Spikes is a Ground-Type move introduced in Generation II. A spikes' trap is set at the feet of the opposing team, dealing damage to opponents that switch in. Flying-Type Pokémon and those with Levitate are immune to spikes unless Gravity is in effect. Spikes can be cleared away by Rapid Spin and Defog.

Layers of spikes deal the following damage, the percentage being the amount of HP lost in relations to the target's Maximum HP:

  1. 12.5%
  2. 18.75%
  3. 25%
