Spinarak (イトマル) is the 32nd Pokémon in the Johto Pokédex. It is a Bug/Poison type, and is known as the String Spit Pokémon.

Spinarak can possess one of two Abilities; Swarm, which increases the power of its Bug type moves by 50% when its HP falls below a third of its maximum, or Insomnia, which prevents it from being afflicted by the Sleep status condition. Its Hidden Ability is Sniper, which increases the power of critical hits to 2.25x the normal damage.

Spinarak evolves into Ariados starting at Level 22.

Spinarak is part of the Bug Egg Group, and hatches after 3,840 steps. It takes Spinarak 800,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Physiology

Spinarak are green, spider Pokémon. They have six yellow legs that each have a black stripe on them. The markings on Spinarak's abdomen resemble a face. The "face" on Spinarak's abdomen is apparently capable of changing its expression to suit Spinarak's mood. Spinarak have a small, white horn on their head.

Gender Differences

There are no distinguishing features that appear in the male and female version of this Pokémon.

Original Games

Spinarak can be obtained in Pokémon Gold in the wild at Route 2, Route 30, Route 31 and Route 37 during the night. In Pokémon Crystal, it can be caught in the wild at Route 2, Route 30, Route 31, Route 36, Route 37 and National Park during the night. It can also be caught at Route 33, Route 42 and Azalea Town in trees using Headbutt.

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Spinarak can be caught in the wild at Pattern Bush, being found more often in FireRed. In Pokémon Emerald, it can be caught in the Safari Zone after completion of the game.

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Spinarak can be obtained by breeding an Ariados. In Pokémon HeartGold, it can be caught in the wild at Route 2 in the morning, and at Route 30, Route 31 and Route 37 during the night. It can also be caught in any tree using Headbutt.

In Pokémon Black, White and Black 2, Spinarak can be obtained by breeding an Ariados. It could also be caught in the Dream World in Spooky Manor.

In Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Spinarak can be obtained by breeding an Ariados.

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, it can be caught in the wild at Route 1 during the night.

Spinarak first appeared in Spinarak Attack. Officer Jenny of the town that Ash and his friends were in used Spinarak to honor the Spinarak that foiled a notorious cat burglar known as The Black Arachnid.

Bugsy's Spinarak debuted in Gettin' The Bugs Out.

Spinarak silk was being used as beauty masks in Ariados Amigos.
