[edit] Biology

[edit] Physiology

Squirtle is a Water-type Pokémon modeled after an aquatic sea turtle. The blue color that it acquires is given to Squirtle because of how the ocean reflects blue light on a Sea turtle. Squirtle's shell is brown with a yellow underbelly; Squirtle is known to withdraw into its shell, both in and outside of battle.

[edit] Gender Differences

Squirtle has no distinguished features that make it appear male or female.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Squirtle is one of the first Pokémon Ash catches. Originally Squirtle was a troublemaker and was the leader of a group of Squirtles known as the Squirtle Squad.
Squirtle Squad
These Squirtle, all wearing sunglasses and in costumes, started a lot of trouble in the local town by playing pranks on the townsfolk during the episode Here Comes the Squirtle Squad because the Squirtle were abandoned by their trainers.
Ash's Squirtle

When Ash and friends make their way to town, the Squirtle play pranks on them as well. After there a large fire in the town causes an emergency, the Squirtle Squad puts it out, and Officer Jenny allows the Squirtle Squad to be the town's official fire fighters.

The leader of the Squirtle Squad, however, decides to go on a journey with Ash after Ash saves it from Team Rocket. Squirtle becomes a power player on Ash's team. Squirtle is also adored by Misty as a result of being a Water-type and she's glad Ash manages to place one on his team. Eventually Squirtle returns to his post as the leader of the Squirtle Squad despite being sad having to leave Ash; during later episodes in both Johto and Hoenn, Squirtle is seen to still be called upon to join Ash's team on occasion.

Squirtle is one of Ash's Original Six - (the others being Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charizard, Butterfree & Pidgeot).

May would also obtain a Squirtle in the episode The Right Place at the Right Mime by hatching one from a Pokémon Egg. It would evolve into a Wartortle prior to its appearance in the Wallace Cup during the episode Staging A Heroes Welcome.

[edit] Movies

Ash's Squirtle appears in the films Mewtwo Strikes Back and The Power of One, along with the Pikachu shorts Pikachu's Vacation, Pikachu's Rescue Adventure and Meloetta's Sparkling Recital. May's Squirtle appears in the films Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and the Pikachu shorts Pikachu's Ghost Festival and Pikachu's Island Adventure.

[edit] Manga

Green (known as Blue in Japan's version of the Manga) would steal a Squirtle from Professor Oak's lab, which would evolve into a Wartortle prior to Red encountering her at Celadon City in Chapter 15.
