Swellow (オオスバメ) is the 26th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Normal/Flying Type, and is classified as the Swallow Pokémon.

Swellow uses the Guts Ability. This Ability increases its attack by 50% when this Pokémon is afflicted by one of the five status conditions, and the side-effect of a Burn decreasing its Attack stat does not get applied. A second Ability is avaliable to Swellow from the Dream World, the Scrappy Ability. This Ability allows the Pokémon to strike a Ghost-Type opponent with a Normal-Type attack without having to use Foresight or Odor Sleuth.

Taillow can evolve into a Swellow starting at Level 22.

Swellow is in the Flying Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 3,840 Steps to hatch. It takes Swellow 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Anime/Manga Information

[edit] Anime

Ash's Taillow evolved into a Swellow in the episode That's Just Swellow. It would not be long before Ash's Swellow would be put to the test, as it would go against another Swellow, this one belonging to Fortree City Gym Leader Winona, which happened to be a Shiny Swellow. Ash's Swellow would defeat Winona's earning him his sixth Hoenn League badge.

Swellow also appeared in Ash's Sinnoh League Semi-Final match against Tobias. Swellow was the second Pokémon defeated by Tobias's Latios.

[edit] Movies

Ash's Swellow appeared in the films Destiny Deoxys, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. Wild Swellow also appeared in the film Giratina and the Sky Warrior.

Ash's Swellow also appeared in the unaired Pikachu Short Pikachu's Summer Festival.

[edit] Manga

Swellow's Manga Information is unknown as of writing.

[edit] Pokémon Information

[edit] Competitive Battling

Swellow is a viable option in the Never-Utilized, Rarely-Utilized and Under-Utilized Tiers of Competitive Battling. Its very high Speed makes it tough to go against, and its mediocre Attack gets a major boost once the Guts Ability is activated, making Facade hit even harder. Brave Bird will also cause a lot of damage as well.

Despite its strengths, it has a few glaringly big flaws: Steel-Type and Rock-Type Pokémon will be able to wall it, as it doesn't learn Close Combat, and its Defenses are very low, making the Pokémon that can wall it viable counters.
